Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 45, 2024 (Nov 04 - Nov 10) - PS5 Pro launch

@Signalstar
Yes the PS5 was higher than normal because of the Pro. But that was to be expected. It was of course higher than last week! I don't think anyone would have doubted that only a moment. But as a matter of fact PS5 was not able to pull Up YoY despite the Pro. Yes there was the Slim, but a consoleupgrade should do more than a slim model. Sales will go down in the weeks to come. That level cannot be hold. About beating the Switch: I do hope that a console in its best years with a new flagship model that just launched, and the wind of a all new game (Astro Bot) can pull ahead of a close to 8 years old handheld wich is about to be replaced in less than a year. Anything else would have been quite embarrasing.

That seems like a pretty decent going for the PS5pro.
Hopefully its impact is this strong in other regions as well.

Again, this is not only a console upgrading doing more or less than the slim. This is a full month of out of stock, where last year the weeks prior were around 30-40k if I am not mistaken. Those 30-40k were under 10k for 3-4 weeks because of the out of stock situation. The difference to the baseline it had back then returned in the week Sony sent stock - the Slim model, this is different than slim beating upgrade model release. This is a month of withholding sales because of no stock.

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 140M+ Club Chart

Polls: When will the Switch: Outsell the DS? / Outsell the PS2? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX

It sold 20% more than PS4 Pro did at launch, at more than double the price.

PS4 Pro - 65,194 units at 45,000 yen ($288 USD)
PS5 Pro - 78,086 units at 120,000 yen ($770 USD)

It's almost 3 times as expensive.
Considering its price, I think launch week figures are quite good.

Your conversions are a bit off because the yen is worth much less vs. the dollar today than it was in 2016.  Using 2016 exchange rates for the PS4 Pro, it comes out to $422 USD.

So, the PS5 is still a lot more than the PS4 was, but effectively a little less than double the price.

Oh yeah, that is true.
Although I was refering to the Yen when comparing the price. Since people don't necesarily earn more money in 2024 than they did in 2016.

OMG

My post has NOTHING to do with sales this week.

All I was saying is that last week's sales, Week 44 for 2024, were higher than the corresponding Week 44 for 2023. That's it.

The original poster I was replying to was implying that the PS5 was incapable of being up YOY for a single week this year, I wanted to show that the PS5 already has at least one week where it sold higher than the previous year.

My posts have nothing to do with the Pro, the Slim, or this week's sales.

When should we expect figures to start increasing for Holiday season? Looks like sales only really strated to kick off in 2018 with the launch of Pokémon LGPE, and a few weeks later with Smash Ultimate. Nintendo's lineup for the rest of the year is pretty empty this year, so not sure how it'll get going? i could def see DQ3 Remake starting things up, but unsure. Hopefully it won't be another 2023, where sales remained mostly uneffected.

@XtremeBG
The point is, the PS5 Pro is not out of stock. Nowhere in the world. Also not in Japan. I can walk in a store today and buy a Pro. No problem. The stock problem with the PS5 has been resolved back at the Start of 2023.
@Signalstar
Of course there where serval weeks where the PS5 was up YoY. I am sorry if i was misunderstood. But the same week last year was in fact stronger, despite the Pro.

Some people trying to find excuses when a beloved system sells below their (and their favourite company's) expectations. Can't we just agree on the fact, that PS5Pro might have some sort of sucess but not in a way people expected, without trying to find excuses like "too expensive" (already discounted in UK), "out of stock" (scalpers having a hard time selling it even below the launch price)... i mean should I post anymore?

Keep posting, don't let people make you feel bad about or discourage you from posting. It's a forum here.

The DQ3 remake could boost things a bit this week but in general things shouldn't change till December and considering the trend sales should be mostly unaffected again. There aren't enough Japanese people without a Switch left to result in 150-200k weeks any more.

PS4 slim week beat PS4 pro week in Japan. There were also many people expecting PS5 pro to flop because of the price, no disc drive and minor upgrade compare to the PS4 pro and Xbox One X. Funny how you only comparing it to the same week of last year but keep ignoring it beat the PS4 pro launched week even though the it's double the price of the PS4 pro and that's without the disc drive as well. PS5 pro isn't selling out but it didn't flop either
