Just seeing this thread. I have issue with the poll. I think that 2027 and 2028 should be separate and I think 2031 should be added. There is a real universe where the Switch can make it to 160 but just takes a little longer. I mean if Nintendo comes out and ends production that's one thing but up until then it should be in play.

If you think it will reach 160M in either 2027 or 2028 simply vote for it. At this time it's a little too far to be important how many people think it will reach it in either year, and therefore I've grouped it. When we get close to it, if the Switch is not discontinued till then I will add it as a separate choices. I also love each option to have more votes rather than just 1 or 2. For now they will stay grouped.

2031 is way too far away, and there are many things could happen during this time. If we reach let's say 2028 and Switch is still selling, but it's somewhat far from reaching 160M then I can add it. It's just like nitpicking at this time, year so far away. If you really want to make such detailed prediction from now on, simply write it in a post, and vote 2030. It's okay. Either way the chances Switch will be selling in 2031 are little to none, and shooting it 5 years before and guessing it right are even smaller.

Edit: I just edited the picture through AI. Now the PS2 is 160.01M, the way it should've been from the start.

Sometime in 2028 I think :)

160.63M it's the number of units produced.
+160.00M it's the number of units sold (higher than 160 but lower than 160.6).

Tides are quickly turning amongst voters, only about a year ago a vast majority of nearly 80% of people voted for Switch is beat PS2. Now its lowering to nearly a 50/50 vote split.

At this point I see it as unlikely to reach 160M, probably ending around 158M

As @Evilms pointed out, 160.63m is the Playstation 2 manufactured number, not the sold through number.

Technically, the PS2 sold number should be between 160.0m and 160.1m, since Sony does list the hundred-thousand number when crossed (PS1 - more than 102.4m, PSP - more than 76.4m, etc).  PS2 is listed as more than 160.0m, indicating that it didn't quite make it to 160.1m.  That's the number the Switch needs to reach in sales to be crowned number one (for me anyway).

I agree. Culture crave should update that in their statistic.

Edit: I just edited the picture through AI, for the PS2 number to be 160.01M.

Within a months, with the sales data from January, February, and Nintendo's forecast for the Switch for the next fiscal year, which will be released in May, we will know this answer. I was a vivid enthusiastic for the Switch to pass the PS2, so that I could see history in the making, but I am not a believer anymore. But until May there are chances, technically speaking

If I was Nintendo I would just sell Switch at a huge discount just to push for that extra 6 million in sales. Hell, i'd even make a micro Switch for fun.

They can afford to take the loss, but can they afford to have another chance at getting this close to being the #1 selling console of all time again?
