So Switch outsold PS5 by around 6:1 for the month. That price hike really did a number on Sony's console, combined with Switch remaining seemingly immortal in Japan.
Being just 15% down YOY is remarkable for a system's 8th year on the market.

If PS5 sales don't pick back up in it won't be long before it falls behind the PS4 launch aligned in Japan.

Yeah I'm not seeing anything in the short term that could change PS5's fortunes, short of a complete 180 on the price hike which seems unlikely.

I don't expect the Pro will do much to reignite their flame given its huge price tag in Japan and that even the current model's price seems be stifling enthusiasm.

Monster Hunter could give them a much needed shot in the arm next year, but that's still several months away.

If Sony continue with this price increase everywhere, and on the main regions such as US and Europe, I expect the sales to drop to PS3 levels weekly and monthly. Which will itself put a limit to probably 100M lifetime even with the gen going as far as 2028.

I still think they'll pass 100m easily; Xbox has imploded so they have no real competition.

Yeah, maybe. It will be interesting to see what the GTA 6 effect will be, and also if the rumors to prolong the generation till 2030 come to reality.

There will be a limit to how expensive they can make console gaming, before people will search for alternatives like PC. A lot of people only buy consoles when they are cheaper in the latter half of its life cycle. The PS5 will most likely never be available for less than 400 euro. So it's late life legs might not be as good as PS4, which it's already trailing behind and will trail behind for a while.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
