Ah, my bad then. I always have them horizontal so I probably just got rid of it.

Same. The stand doesn't stay on horizontal and only makes it more difficult to get it in and out of the cabinet.
Don't need a stand for the pro either, but do need a disc drive :/

I dont know why they just didnt show it horizontally so they didnt have to have the "no stand included" disclaimer. The original didnt come with a stand either, right? At least, I dont remember getting it, but maybe I'm forgetting. |
The original comes with a stand that you can change to both keep it horizontal or vertical.
Okay, obviously Sony is not againts putting new console model at higher than normal price. Why they just don't combine and put up new special PS5 model which includes native PS1, PS2 and PS3 hardware, so that it could be able to play almost everything released on every PS console by that point, alongside with disc drive of course ? The sky is the limit right ? Since they put a machine for 699$, which they know will sell way less than the normal one, why don't put PS5 with normal hardware for a price somewhere around that, or with Pro hardware for something like maybe 999$ ? This would be something big.

They should have done that for the special anniversary one instead of grey color scheme. They're all scalped already and selling for up to 4,000 pounds... Instead of a 12K limited run, make a special all generations model.
But that would probably retail for $2,000 if not more. It's a lot cheaper to replace a face plate than to make special limited run hardware. Basically the original phat BC ps3 would have to be combined with the PS5 to get all generations on board. And since that production line has been shuttered long ago :/
I would also love a re-run of the original phat PS3 with SSD card reader, full BC, HDD replaced with 2Tb SSD and lasting solder.

They just need to sell a modular disc player like they are already doing, but that can read cds and dvds too, let emulation take care of the rest.

Emulation isn't perfect. The people willing to pay lots of money for something like this would want authenticity with modern convenience. Not emulation.
At least that sums up me.
But yes, an external disc player that plays all formats would be useful.

Some of you guys are taking console pricing very badly...

PS1 BC on PS3 was via emulation, only for the PS2 BC they still used the chip itself in very early models.
Emulation was not a problem, you even talked about PS3 being combined on PS5 to achieve all gens, so PS1 would be emulation in that scenario.
And software emulation would not demand people to pay lots of money, they just need the disc drive able to read it, would cost about the same as the ongoing disc drive the PS5 already has for sale.
The other alternative would be a FPGA approach, they won't use old parts not being built up anymore because they can't, and makes no sense either, but replicate the original hardware with new parts, and yeah, that would definitely get quite costly... and still not be proper BC, even as it could be quite a bit better than software emulation.
I still have all my Playstations, so I'm also not too keen on emulation and preffer the original hardware, but it's either the original hardware you already have or emulation, be it software or hardware, the quality can vary a lot but software emulation can also be extremely good too... not that PS classic mini fiasco, tho.

Did the Pro consoles sale out last gen though? Mid gen refreshes are a new thing so we can't really compare it to a normal console release.
