Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales: Week 4, 2024 (Jan 22 - Jan 28)

I really doubt the sales of Switch will hold above 40k weekly going into the next couple of months.
They should drop to like 20K in my opinion and maybe even below that once the successor launches.

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 150M+ Club Chart

Best holiday months / When will the Switch pass 160M? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX / Switch 2

Wow, Tekken did terrible - only just over a third of the sales Tekken 7 managed first week on PS4. Even adding in digital sales it'd be well down. One of the worst first weeks for the franchise physically in its history - even Tekken 6 on X360 sold more! Hopefully it's doing better overseas because by all accounts it's a solid step up over the last one.

Tekken 8 sold double SF6 FW in the UK so seems to be doing well in the west.

I don't know if this explains it, but this Famitsu chart only seems to account for 2 days of sales, since it launched on the 26th.

Would be a shame if it sells poorly in Japan since its reviewing very well and everyone seems to agree that it's a big step up from Tekken 7 in many regards.

Competitive players will probably opt for the Steam version, but they're the minority of the userbase.

Nintendo will probably have a Direct in the upcoming weeks/month to show some last titles for Switch. It should keep it alive until the rest of the year.

They'll likely focus on Switch 2 after that.

Switch rise ! Rise !

Where's the Switch vs PS5 Japan 2024 thread? Most people think switch would easily win but it doesn't look like it . I'm guessing it's gonna be very close with both selling between 2-2.5m

PS5 hardware doing surprisingly well so far, but I doubt it can maintain strong sales throughout the year at the price they're asking. Not without Monster Hunter Wilds.

I think Switch is winning this year even if the Switch 2 gets launched.

If Nintendo announce Switch 2 in the first half of this year which is very likely then it's gonna be very close. I can see Switch and PS5 doing between 30-50k weekly with switch sightly ahead most weeks but PS5 will have a few big weeks because of more big games releasing like FF 7, persona 3 , metal gear solid 3 and so on

Right now if you go to the Hot Topics page, it is titled
"JAPAN Console Showdown 2024: January 28th" and is a poll, with the data already up.
XtremeBG does an amazing job and is charming to follow the process.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 160 million (was 120 million, then 140 million, then 150 million)

PS5: 130 million (was 124 million)

Xbox Series X/S: 54 million (was 60 million, then 57 million)

I had a look and seems like everyone thinks it will be very close between switch and PS5. I forgot about the PS5 pro could be releasing this year so with that I think PS5 gonna outsell switch this year in Japan. Switch around 2.5m and PS5 2.6m

I expect that Switch numbers will quickly collapse as soon as the succ is out. If there’s a price drop they could hold up slightly better but it feels like the console has ran its course, especially if there are major Switch 2 exclusives at launch.
