VG estimates on Xbox series X/S sales in July (132K, about half of Switch 1 sales the same month) paints the picture that Xbox series is already pretty much dead, with little more sales potential. I don't see how the next Xbox can come out in 2027 based on these figures, its already selling much lower numbers than Switch 1 sold before it got replaced by Switch 2. Based on current sales, Xbox would need to launch a new console already in 2025.

Another price hike....

This console was already selling Wii U level numbers, now this is just the final nail in the coffin. At this point if Xbox wants to be even remotely competitive for 10th gen, Sony would need to pull another PS3 caliber disaster where Xbox is way cheaper, but I dont see that happening and i don't think Xbox can ever recover from a dead console like this, everyone's trust is with PS now.

Like mentioned early, the next Xbox might just be a basic PC-box called an "Xbox" but is just much closer to a PC then it is a console. If Microsoft were to try again with another console id have my doubts it could even reach 25 Million sold lifetime and may hover around Gamecube numbers or even lower.

We have to remember a big reason why Xbox SX even got to 30 Million was cause of PS5 shortages and Xbox having a good price advantage early on, I dont think the next Xbox will have any of those advantages next gen.

Microsoft gotta be asking themselves is it even worth making another Xbox that at best only 25M people will buy

Sounds like 36 million might be the ceiling if the current estimate is accurate. I think Series consoles are pretty much dead hardware wise.

Sony will capitalize on Xbox's collapse when GTA6 is out. But GT6's delay hints a simultaneous PC release.

I foresee less than 100k/month (post-second price hike) with Nov+Dec’25 seeing a combined 750k systems sold. Wherever it is right now, add ~3.5-4mil and you've hit LTD. At this point, it is abundantly clear that Microsoft has given up entirely on hardware. My question now is whether we will see another Xbox home console? Or if we should be expecting something entirely different, e.g. an Xbox PC?

35-36M lifetime tops now.

Xbox ROG Ally, the reason why Microsoft is not porting their games to Switch 2 just opened preorders. Lets see if Microsoft's big bet that this will be a competitor to Switch 2 pays off, they are even moving away from their CoD on Switch 2 commitment to make as many people as possible buy the Xbox ROG Ally over a Switch 2.

This take is just very wrong. MS are not betting this will be a competitor to Switch 2, it is not positioned as a mass market device and it also has nothing to do with why MS is taking a long time to announce games for Switch 2.

Other handhelds like Steam Deck / Legion Go are much closer competition and MS isn't withholding their games from these systems.

OT: Now with the price increased yet another $50 they don't have a chance in hell. $650 for a Series X in 2025 is a joke. It's at the point where for once you can genuinely build a more powerful PC for less than the price of the console.

Xbox ROG Ally is not even a "PS6 handheld" competitor, which in turn won't be a Switch 2 competitor. SteamDeck vs PS6 handheld will be the closest thing to being a "competition" in the portable space since they both will be used to push their companies' platforms, and neither supports the services of the other.

Even if this, by a string of miracles, sells a 100 million units (it won't even sell a single million btw), Microsoft would hardly make any money from it because they're paying Asus a cut, and everyone will use it to play on Steam. For giant companies, the main point of hardware is to sell you software. I genuinely don't understand the purpose of this thing. Every so called "direct" SteamDeck competitor in the PC space is actually a win for Valve. Because they're not really competitors at all, they're just tools for accessing Steam.

Switch 2 >>>>> PS6 handheld >> SteamDeck >>>>> Xbox ROG Ally.
