As of these numbers, just 2.3 million left til Switch passes 3DS.

In other words, by now, it probably already has.

Was just about to say that. It probably has, or it's getting very close. Switch will pass GBA in 2021, that's a given. Next is Xbox 360 and PS3, which is also a given for next year. Passing the Wii is possible next year, but I think that will be in Q1 2022.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Yeah, GBA, PS3, and 360 will all fall in 2021. Wii and PS1 could go either way between holiday 2021 and early 2022 depending on what Nintendo does as far as games, revisions, price cuts, etc.

the problem with china is its censorship policies.

Ergo, it would be way, WAY harder for xbox or playstation to even try to get a proper foothold there.

meanwhile most of nintendo's first party lineup be like: stonks.

It's not like China would be the only benefit for Sony/Microsoft developing more E rated non controversial games. They would both easily expand their appeal to younger families. They both have some games that are family friendly, but nothing like Nintendo, and family friendly games tend to be ones that communist China will have less issues with. Microsoft is already becoming aware of the importance of family friendly games I think. Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Everwild are all big steps in that direction as far as exclusives go. Rumors about Banjo are going again too. Still, they could use more. Sony definitely needs to take some steps in this direction first party wise.

Does PS4 have enough in the tank to outsell GB?

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Switch at the end of this month will be the 11th top selling platform and will go into 2021 taking on the top 10, under current momentum it'll pass the PS3 for 7th in Q2 of the next FY at which point it'll only be the 100m club above it.

Hi @Alex_The_Hedgehog @Wyrdness you are right, next year should be a very interesting year for this All-Time list. There is a chance that the NS is able to enter the top 5 by passing the Original PS. It would need about 25M for the calendar year, something that it is really high and rare, but it seems like Nintnedo is having a great momentum and it probably has a few tricks that it saved for next year (I say this because of the uneventful releases of this holiday season).

Looking at amount of units sold in a 12 month period for all consoles tracked here, it seems like Only the DS was able to have years above 25 million, The switch should be the second all time to achieve this.

It will definitely be fun to watch this race and the growth of the two new consoles.

Hi @brute I think if someone read this question a few months ago, they might have thought you are a troll. But looking at how sales are going this holiday season, this question is now a very valid one. It would be very unfortunate if it doesn't reach the 118.69 needed, As of right now it would need about 4M units more. If it sells like the PS3 sold after the release of the PS4, then it would have 8.25M left.

Just by looking at that you might say that it is a guarantee that it will, but right now the PS4 is way below what the PS3 sold in its first holiday with a new console.

If you look at Year 8 Month 11, then you see that PS3 sold .9M and PS4 sold .6M, that is about a 33% drop (or 38.84% if you divide the actual values).

If we multiply that drop for the entire las 3 years, then we get that the PS4 would sell 5M. So even if it keeps selling with this horrible ratio compared to the PS3, it should be able to reach the GB (but not the 120M milestone).

We will just have to wait at least a few months to maybe get a better picture. Certainly 2021 will do most of the remaining sales of the PS4, therefore if it is not able to sell at least 2.5 million from this november until October 2021 (1.6M more than what it has sold), then it probably won't reach the GB.

but I thought the switch would do 80m by the end of the year :P >_>
