Future of Physical Media in consoles - end of disks?

in Gaming Discussion 1 day ago

SvennoJ said: hunter_alien said: This. Honestly, the selfishness of gamers is a bit sickening. Do you know how much plastic pollution comes from those 3 billion+ discs that are printed every generation? Or the storage and transportation and their effect on the environment. Honestly, as much as I loath DRM practices, I am glad that discs and cartridges are going the way of the...

Future of Physical Media in consoles - end of disks?

in Gaming Discussion 1 day ago

AsGryffynn said: I'm thinking we might see USB type C proprietary pen drives as the new storage solution. maybe, but it'll still need  cart like port to be elegent, and the only solution currently fast enough on a USB-C form factor is thunderbolt, which is firmly on intel and apple's side. There is a fucking reason why the XBSX/S uses a proprietary slot for it. As for the...

Future of Physical Media in consoles - end of disks?

in Gaming Discussion 2 days ago

My point here is that phisical games are going to be the same as 'special edition' realeses starting next gen, which is why I'm saying that its going to go to carts. If they start selling as carts, and as more of a collector's item, they'll have enough excuse to sell at 80, as long as its a plug and play implementation. especially if both companies uses it as also a memory expansion port anyway....

Future of Physical Media in consoles - end of disks?

in Gaming Discussion 2 days ago

Now that even consoles are moving toward subscription based media, What you you guys think the future of physical media is? Personally, I see them going toward the collector's item status, same as blu-ray. Though however, I see everyone moving away from discs, as discs just don't work, hell, they haven't really since the start of gen 8. even the much weaker wii U used install data on some...

for thouse arguing over the generation gap: dreamcast to gamecube was a 3 year gap. nintendo literally pulled a dreamcast, for basically the same reasons as sega when comparing the wii U and the saturn. its just that nintendo had multiple fallbacks. ...

Which will be the next Switch model?

in Nintendo Discussion on 11 October 2020

considering the magic that is DLSS, the pro is extreamly liekly.it wouldn't even need to render too much better then the base switch to achive a good 4k DLSS docked.it woudl just need to hold 480p undocked and 720p docked for a good 1080p portable/4k DLSS docked expirence as long as it can do whis before the application of DLSS and the tensor cores ...

The problem isn't their sales performance, but the number of titles. The publishers, possibly wary from the Wii U flop, were very slow to make the Switch to the new platform. As a result, the...

Microsoft will allow manufacturers other than Seagate to make Xbox expansion cards

I mean they make enclosures to use NVMe on different USB ports. So I maybe an enclosure that simply connects to that SSD port would do the job as well. That would be the most consumer friendly option at...

Sony: PS4's Lifespan Will Be 3-4 More Years

in Sony Discussion on 09 October 2020

ps4 support and ps4 level graphics might stay even longer then the ps2 did, if most of japanese development shifts gears to target switch (which is a no brainer for companies who have over 40% of thier sales in japan) which will probably start rolling out around next year. becasue lets face it, the ps5 would be lucky to sell significantly more then the vita, sitting at just under 6 mil. ps4 is...

in Nintendo Discussion on 08 October 2020

nintendo's actually kinda lucky that they chose this year as thier 'resting' year before the second wave of first party titles likely comes out next year, as even then the demand is just past thier capability of production. even if they don't go over 30 mil this year, if next year has that AND a switch pro it might just smash 30 mil easily, giving it a real shot at cacting up to DS/ps2 whoese...

What does Nintendo need to do to reach 150M Switches sold?

in Sales Discussion on 02 October 2020

The issue with the entire distribution thing and why nintendo lacks in it compared to sony and MS: xbox and PS is piggybacking on a distribution, support, and marketing network that is pre established via MS and sony's other ventures, so it doesn't take them much to support a new reigion- for MS its almost as simple as just shipping the consoles, sony its only barely harder then that.
