Forums - Sales - Wii U Launch Line Up vs. Wii U Hardware...

If NintendoLand comes in packed with the system or with the GamePad (we'll need 2, wont we?) and we have have Super Mario Bros U, Zombi U, Pikmin3, dude, thats 3 must buy games, not only its a good launch but its quickly becoming an expensive one

...

Pikmin 3 will not be there at launch. Reggie confirmed this:

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/06/06/e3-2012-reggie-discusses-launching-wii-u-retro?page=2

"IGN: Actually, regarding Pikmin, is that launch, launch window, is that some time off in the future...?

Fils-Aime: So we've said that that's launch window. Everything that we've shown from a first-party perspective is definitely launch window.

IGN: And launch window is the first couple months? Something like that?

Fils-Aime: Eh... More than that. It's launch plus the following three to four months."

Actually, going by that quote, even NSMBU might not be a launch game.

Theoretically, the Wii U launches with the most established / popular franchises a console has seen I'd say. I can't think of PS1 / PS2 / PS3, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Xbox, or X360 launching with so much established, popular content. It's not necessarily the best line up of all time, but it's possibly the most "popular" line up ever, if it all does come by March 2013.

I agree. Although I would mention, that everyone said the launch-lineup of the Vita is strong - and look which way it took.

But I don't see this danger for the WiiU. It will do good, but I'm not sure it will do phenomenal. But with this strong launch-lineup and the headstart (I think at least half a year) it should manage to hold up the next generation as X360 and PS3 did against the Wii. They both sold more than the half of the gen-winner. This same sort of success is the least I think the WiiU can achieve.

Well, I have a Ps3, and Im getting ACIII, Batman, Darksiders II, and probably aliens and Ninja Gaiden III on my Wii U..... why? Well, the Wii U is a console I will definitely buy (nintendo games) so I decided to buy those games on the Wii U instead of my Ps3. I guess there are a few people out there that thinks the same way I do....

If Bioware change the end for the Wii U version then Mass Effect 3 will be the most selling game of the system xD

I mean....the lineup is great but with 3rd party titles, it's not going to entice HD owners to buy the new system. Might swing some Wii owners to buy the system though.

If there is a 3rd party game that will bring in "core" gamers and I think ZombiU will do that.

I do think Sing might be a big hit for the WiiU in the same sense that Just Dance was for the Wii. I think the whole Karaoke on the tablet makes it seem pretty cool.

I feel that PikminU is the game that should be a system seller but it will ultimately be New Super Mario Bros U that will end up as the highest selling game by the end of the year (save for Nintendoland, which will be bundled I believe).

You guys put too much faith into ZombiU. I have a feeling people will be very disappointed by this title and no, I don't thing it has any real chance of enticing core gamers.

I'm not entirely convinced Wii U will enhance gameplay and create new genres like Wii did, but it should enhance gameplay more than 3DS did...and possibly in similar ways to how DS did.

For the launch though, it occured to me that the line up is actually very strong in terms of active fanbases, genres, and diversity. Let's take a look -

Launch Window Headliners (Franchises with about 10m fans or more)

- Wii U Fit  (Wii Fit sold 23m, Wii Fit Plus 20m)

- New Super Mario Bros. Wii U (28m for New Super Mario Bros. DS, 25m for NSMB Wii)

- Just Dance 4 (Just Dance 3 is around 11m between Wii, Kinect and Move)

- Assassin's Creed 3  (Assassin's Creed 1-2 are around 9-10m each)

Nintendo Supplementary Hits (1-3m)

- Wii U Panorama

- Pikmin 3 (Pikmin 1-2 solid like 1-2m each)

Potential Breakout Hits (500k - 5m):

- Legoland

- Sing

- Project 100

- Nintendoland

- Tank Tank Tank

- Game & Wario

- Scribblenauts

- Rayman Legends

- Zombi U

- Your Shape

- Sports Connection (Ubisoft)

- Aliens

Major Ports / Minor Multiplats (200k - 1m)

- Mass Effect 3 (1m on PS3 / X360)

- Arkham City (6m on X360 / PS3)

- Darksiders II (Darksiders I did 1m on X360 / PS3)

- Skylanders

- Call of Duty?

- Dragon Quest X?

- Tekken

- Ninja Gaiden

In terms of announced software, assuming all the games exist, it's fairly likely the above games can sell 70-100m units of software lifetime and all seem to be real.

i (and the other ~120M households that already own a ps3 or 360) won't be enticed by any of those titles.  why the hell would i get new hardware to play the same game i already can buy for the hardware i own??  with dragon quest X already out of wii, i don't see that being an enticing title either.

of what's left a few (like sing) look terrible but in short what i see is only titles for the "casuals".  Wii Fit, NSMB, Just Dance, Nintendo Land.  Pikmin, zombieU, rayman will probably all be good games but i dout any of them are real big or system sellers.

wii U won't be any where near the kind of flop the virtual boy was but i just can't see it doing anywhere near what the wii did either.  So what did the ps3 and 360 do in their first years?  I see the wiiU having a similar launch.

Actually I am getting Assassin Creed III on the Wii U, I do agree with you, but I know some people who will get ACIII on the Wii U including my set of friends...the other titles however are almost doomed.

Not all wii owners bought a PS3 or Xbox 360 and those who have didn`t necessarily bought ME3 or Batman. I own a PS3 and bought neither and i`m willing to buy ME3 now. But that`s just me, of course.
I believe that the ports have a good chance of selling well enough. NG 3 might sell well now!:D

I am getting Assassin Creed III,darksiders, ninja gaiden, dragon quest, aliens on the Wii U. maybe batman depends on the new features besides gameplay

they will be released in the same preiod of the wii u,

so why not??

better gameplay and better graphics.

If you have a ps3, it is in your best interest to go ahead and get it for ps3 anyways so you can at least play Mass Effect 2 with it at a cheaper price. As for batman, the wiiu upgrades look minimal at best. You could pick up the GoTY edition for ps3 cheaper too. As for ninja Gaiden, that game is generally accepted as crap. I have no idea why you would want that to sell well. There is no reason why you should buy any of those games on the wiiu when you already have a ps3. Maybe wii only users would possibly buy batman and if they are weird, they might buy the other two, but you would be nuts, rich, or bad at managing your money to buy these ports on the wiiu seeing as they don't offer anything other editions don't already.

But they offer something: a new control scheme. Don`t know about ME3, but seeing as the Wii U gamepad has a mic. some functions from Kinect could be passed on to the Wii U version.
The thing is, for someone who might be faced with the option, the Wii U might just be the best version, even if it`s just regarding the control scheme.

NG 3 is bad but from what i read it`s being re-worked and Nintendo is landing a hand. It might just turn out to be good.
