For those wondering there will be a dedicated article for the Switch outselling the DS up tomorrow or Monday.

Since it's Switch vs DS.

Only in Europe it hasn't surpassed it or it's not  able to achieve it.

There is a market though, that it might be feasible.

Has Nintendo switch reached 9m in France?

Ds stands at 10m as the best selling ever gaming hardware in the country.

Switch is also behind the DS in North America by about 4 million. But yes Europe is where it is behind by the most. By about 12 million. However, sales have dropped pretty much just as fast in Europe as it has in the US. Japan is by far holding the best, followed by Latin America and mainland Asia.

Latin America?

Wow, unexpected...

For NA, maybe finally a price reduction can bring a tie, if NS stays longer in the market.

Excuse me for persisti to learn the sales figure in France.

What vgc has estimated?

In the recent past France tracking was wonderfully precise for every console.

Nintendo of France president used to report every milestone back then, perhaps we have to wait for NS vs Ns2 comparisons.

I wouldn't expect a price cut in North America. The price went UP last year due to the tariffs and now the cost of RAM has shot up.

Our estimates in France has the Switch 1 at just under 9 million lifetime.

Nintendo Switch Outsells DS to Become Best-Selling Nintendo Platform of All-Time

The Nintendo Switch has outsold the lifetime sales of the Nintendo DS to become the best-selling Nintendo platform of all-time, according to VGChartz estimates

The Switch has sold an estimated 154.16 million units worldwide as of February 2026, while the DS sold 154.02 million units lifetime.

Up next for the Switch is the best-selling video game platform of all-time, the PlayStation 2, with just over 160 million units sold lifetime. The Switch needs to sell around another six million units to outsell the PS2.

The exact total number of units sold for the PS2 isn't known, however, Sony did announce the PS2 sold over 160 million lifetime, while the number of units manufactured is 160,636,885, according to former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden.

Breaking down the sales of the Switch by region, it has sold an estimated 53.84 million units in North America, 39.71 million units in Europe, 36.66 million units in Japan, and 23.95 million units in the rest of the world.

This compares to the DS, which sold 57.92 million units in North America, 51.84 million units in Europe, 32.99 million units in Japan, and 11.28 million units in the rest of the world.

Breaking down sales of the Switch in Europe even further, it has sold 7.44 million units in the UK, 8.98 million in France, and 7.70 million in Germany.

Shipment figures for the Nintendo Switch reached 155.37 million units as of December 31, 2025, while 1,500.1 million Switch games had been shipped lifetime.

Here is a list of the top 10 best-selling Nintendo Switch games, according to Nintendo's shipment figures through December 2025:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 70.59 million
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 49.32 million
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 37.44 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 33.64 million
  5. Super Mario Odyssey – 30.27 million
  6. Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet – 28.08 million
  7. Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – 27.08 million
  8. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 22.40 million
  9. Super Mario Party – 21.28 million
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 18.80 million

The Switch launched worldwide on March 3, 2017, while the DS released in North America in November 2004, in Japan in December 2004, and in Europe in March 2005.

Thank you so much! Anywise, the gap among ds ns in France is a bit bigger than i thought, 8.9m vs 10.6m.

Do you think it's feasible to reach 10m milestone in France when all is said and done?

As for the price hike in the USA, it's a disgruntling fact.

I  just implied if Nintendo switch is still around by the next USA presidential elections...

10M ? Which means to sell more than 1M more ? Not a chance.

Switch did 1.2M in whole Europe last year. It is only dropping. It will probably do half or even less than half this year. Again in the whole Europe territory. It's questionable if it can do another 1M in Europe lifetime, let alone in France. Not a chance.
