It's gonna get worse next year. I think the PS5 in the U.S. is now gonna end up falling behind PS4 like in Japan. Europe is right now the saving grace for the system.

Worse, not necessarily. Yes, sales may not be so high in the US now for the PS5, and even going forward, however so are the PS4 ones. We enter into 2019 year, where PS4 dropped from 5.2M the previous year to 3.8M. With GTA VI incoming, PS5 might be on par with this year or even slightly above. It's 3.1M now in the US, so with December it should hit 4M. From there 2020 was incredibly weak for the PS4, and after that it's done nothing.

I honestly think you and many others are heavily overestimating how much GTA 6 will move PS5s next year. GTA 5 didn't move more PS3/Xbox 360 in 2013 vs the previous year. Even in 2018 with the $200 PS4+Spiderman bundle and Red Dead 2 the PS4 still sold less than in 2017.

Sony projected 15 million PS5 for this fiscal year, so if they expect less their next fiscal then that will tell us even they don't expect GTA 6 to boost sales vs this year.

GTA 5 did boost PS3 and 360, but only slightly. However that case was different, cuz it released just 2 months before the next gen, and by that point almost everyone who wanted one of them had one. By end of 2026, the saturation point won't be quiet there for PS5 like it was for PS3 and 360 back in September of 2013. So the boost will be bigger. Also just because the PS4 was still down in 2018, it doesn't mean that those games didn't boost sales somewhat. It would've been even lower without those games. But then again GTA6 is way bigger than those 2 combined.

But leave that. Even if we agree that GTA 6 won't boost sales, PS5 will do equal to PS4 even in the worst scenario. PS4 did 35M in US. PS5 is 27.7M with November. It did 750k in November and it will do around 1M to 1.5M in December, since December is always stronger month (and has been historically even for the PS consoles). So let's round it at 29M by end of the year. Even if it does some 3M next year, it will be at 32M. I can't see PS5 not being able to do 3M more after that, since even in the case of PS6 releasing in 2027, it will have most of the year for itself, and on top of that it will surely sell some units after the PS6 release. So PS4 US lifetime sales at this point seems like a given. And this example scenario was without any boost from GTA 6 mind you. Boost will be there trust me. There is Wolverine coming too. And the price cut Sony can play at some point if they want to, too. So 35M really looks like the floor.
