I wouldn't call it underestimation for the Switch, since pretty much everyone expected successor releasing by end of the year, me included. It is more like wrong estimation about the situation itself or Nintendo's real intentions as we can't know that. Underestimation for PS5 not so much, maybe one about the PS5 Pro, I also wasn't expecting so much of a boost, with a 700$ console.

That's fair since it would've definitely been closer to 10m if it had released a couple months ago and for the PS5 it looks like it'll likely do 19m with some chance of it barely reaching 20m for the year so I might end up somewhat close with that one.

Numbers updated and adjusted with WEEK 49, 50, 51, 52 and 53 for every comparison!

Based on the latest data the following conclusions can be made:

• XBOX Series 2024 vs Nintendo Switch 2024 in USA

The Switch pulled ahead with a nice lead of over 400k

• Nintendo Switch vs PSP'07 (12.8M)

The Switch barely passed 12M and came close to the 2007 year of the PSP, which is achievement for 8th year of the console.

• PlayStation 5 vs Nintendo Switch'19 (19.3M)
  

PS5 finished barely short of the NSW'19 with almost 18.7M

• XBOX Series vs XB360'13 (6.3M) vs XB1'20 (4M)

XBOX Series finished in the middle of those two - at 5M. Better than expected I would say, when in the middle of the year there were weeks as low as 50k.

Also.... Switch 2 never came.
Supposedly production started in september (at some partners) and early november (for foxcon), 2024.
Anyways, come March this year (2025), they should have like 2m+ units ready to go for launch or something.

I was expecting below 18m after a middling few months and after November was expecting above 19m but in the end I was pretty spot on with the PS5 with my first prediction it seems. The Switch was a fair amount off due to me expecting the Switch 2 to have released by November so that isn't too bad but man I really overestimated the Xbox Series and my prediction for it wasn't even above average or anything like that, it just did really badly last year so basically everyone overestimated it. Overall I think my predictions for 2024 held up alright.
