Forums - Sales - VGChartz Sales Comparison Charts May 2023 Discussion Thread

The DS has been gradually expanding its lead over the Switch for the past several years. But we are at the part of the graph where the Switch is going to start catching up. The real question is going to be if the Switch can catch the DS before it runs out of sales momentum. Personally, I think it will, but it has a significant gap to close.

Starting to doubt Xbox Series will sell much better than the Xbox One, let alone the 360.
They've really squandered the chance to be more competitive this gen by having such anemic first party output so far.

Speaking of Xbox Series, with charts like Wii vs Switch in Europe, (and soon NA) ending, Xbox Series vs 3DS would be cool to see as that's the next major system up from Xbox One that we have tracking data for.

This is the problem. The XBXS can't lift itself from the XBOX ONE numbers, let alone 3DS ones. Let's first wait and see if it will go ahead of the XB1 or not, and then compare it to the 3DS.

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 150M+ Club Chart

Best holiday months / When will the Switch pass 160M? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX / Switch 2

I get where you're coming from, but weren't we comparing the Switch to DS before it outsold Wii and PS4?

PS5 is currently being compared to PS4 before it has outsold the PS3, and XS is already being compared to the 360.

Anyway, we don't have to do it, it was only a suggestion.

I agree, however when the Switch began being compared to the DS, it was entering it's beast mode (from fall 2019 onwards) and was doing weekly and monthly numbers around the numbers the DS did. XBSX is not making anywhere near numbers close to the first three years of 3DS (13&14M per year). It is making XB1 sales numbers for now (with years of 8 and 9M). So for now it's still too early to compare it to the 3DS. If it picks up, then sure.
