Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch

This image below confirms that the Switch only needs to sell past after 160.1m units because Sony themselves are listing on their website that the PS2 sold more than 160.0m. And as you can see with other console numbers, if the PS2 sold 160.6, this would be listed as 160.6 and not 160.0. Source: https://sonyinteractive.com/en/our-company/business-data-sales/

LOL at Sony not disclosing PS Vita sales. At least Nintendo openly list their bombs selling figures like Gamecube and Wii U. While Sony wants to create an artificial picture that they have never released hardware that bombed.

@eleazar0425 Playstation 2 was at 155,1 million shipped as of march 31, 2012. It was changed last year. This number is obviously fake! If it was 2013 we could talk but its not.

That was the number they last reported on PS2. After that they grouped together all Playstation system sales to mask the poor sales of the Vita.

Yes but the last reported official number on the same date was changed. PS2 and PS3 where lumped together to mask the poor sales of the Vita? In fact PSP and PSVita where lumped together seperatly! Not all 4 systems. 155,1 million shipped was the number for march 2012 they gave sometime in may 2012 when their FY report for 2011/12 came out. At the end of december 2011 it was 154,4 million in my dark memory, so they shipped 700k in Q4 2011/12 alone. There is no way in hell they shipped 5 million in 10 months (ceased january 13, 2013). They already said 160,6 million PRODUCED. Reducing all the PS2s wich where not shipped for costumers use (i am tired to name it again) we get clearly below 160 million shipped and Sony wants to hide this because they are piss afraid of the Switch! Its like a Ski runner with a Nr.1 Gold medal waiting, shivering that no other runner gets to the finish line faster. But as he is afraid of not staying Nr.1 he secretly changes his time (F.E. from 1:43:56 to 1:42:36) and hopes no one checks it.

Can’t we just let it go? 160.1 sounds like a reasonable goal. Sony has made what will likely be their final claim. This thread should be more about what Nintendo is doing to achieve 160+ rather than nitpicking every nuance between 155-160.1 for Sony. At the end of the day, if Nintendo doesn’t reach that 160.1 number, whether we agree on any number below that won’t matter. It just seems like this thread is a back and forth argument between a few members and seems to be more pedantic than anything.

Here’s to Switch clearing 160.1 so we don’t have to see this argument play out for decades.

This is what i doubt. How many "final claims" they had? (Over 154 million, 155 million, over 155 million, 155.1 million, 157, 158, 160, 160,6...) where does it end?

And what purpose does it serve to keep accusing them of moving the goalpost?  At best its a snarky Twitter/Facebook comment. Aren't we better than that here at VGChartz?  By all means, bring the heat if what you're saying comes to fruition, but at this point you're yelling at imaginary monsters just to yell. I'm sure Sony never felt the need to truly address this issue as no other console outside of the DS has even gotten close to their record.  PR wise it would have made no sense for them to claim any particular number prior to Switch's run.

Their claims have been only 2. 155M (or over it, whatever, 155.1M and over 155M is about the same thing) and 160M now. I don't know why you include 10 different numbers as "their claims". Everything before 155M is just shipment update, so 154 can't be included here, or any other number before that. 155.1M and over 155M is the same thing, so it's just that as of March 2012. And since they haven't update that till 2024, the second figure they give now is 160M. They haven't given 157 or 158M ever. 160.6M is confirmed by Layden, but it shouldn't be taken as official Sony update or statement, so over 160M should be taken as the last official word from them.
