Forums - Gaming - Monster Hunter Coming To PS4/XB1?

Would be fucking awesome if true, i ALWAYS wanted to play Monster Hunter since the first time i saw preview images of it on the official Playstation magazine, but the game never got to my country and back in the day amazon wasnt a thing i could use.

So i waited and saw that the game got a sequel, i was HYPED... until i saw it was for the PSP and being that i wasnt a fan of handhelds i never got the game, it didnt help it either that the series moved to the 3DS, which not only is it a handheld as well but its also underpowered compared to the Vita, and now that i think about it if the series stayed on the Vita i could have finally been able to play it since the Vita TV exists and allows me to play those Vita games on my TV like a home console.

But well if it does goes to the PS4 i will finally be able to play it, so im hyped for that.

Edit: A little bit off topic but one of the reasons im "excited" for the Switch was simply because of games like Monster Hunter, Pokemon and Fire Emblem finally being playable on a big tv screen, like with a home console.

If capcom does bring monster hunter to ps4 / xb1 it would be only in the west and no other region for those platforms . EUROPE and Japan exclusive for the switch I think how it would go down
Unless Nintendo has a iron clad contract with capcom for the mainline games

The online only monster hunter games are a sure bet though

The draw of MonHun is the 4 player co-op, huge number of bosses, and the depth of crafting/gathering systems to get equipment. I don't think the great clunk outshines the former.

That's exactly the draw. And I know only the Souls games and Monster Hunter with these mechanic, so it would be a loss if they convert the gameplay to be more "Bayonetta" or whatever.

How can you compare Souls and MonHun? Souls games are extremely fluid and if MonHun were to replicate Souls combat, the game would be more fun to play. There's a middle ground of between MH and the far end of fast paced action games like Bayonetta. Really, if you look at any other hunting game, you'd find a lot of them are far more enjoyable to play because they have to do things differently to try and stand out.

Why would MH5 be released on Switch when PS4 will have 60 millions users next year versus 10 millions at best for Switch ?

Because the PS4 is not a handheld and MH is way more popular in the land of handhelds, Japan.

In Japan only. They said they want to expand the franchise to the west. And Switch is an unknown quantity, could sell 10 millions or only 5 millions the first year, who knows?

PS4 is a known quantity with ~60 millions consoles  end of 2017, and people buy lots of different games  on PS4. This is not the case for 3DS which is  limited to specific genres.

There is also the digital aspect to consider with 30% sales done digitally on consoles. Traditionnaly much lower on Nintendo consoles. And it won't improve with a console with only 32 GB of data included by default in the machine. It's clearly not a machine designed to buy digital games on it.

Well if install base was a big concern, then few new consoles would get third party support in the first year or two. Localizing a Switch game is probably way cheaper than making the game look better on the PS4 or even the PS4Pro.

MH games are becoming more popular in the west even though they are on a handheld with way less than 32GB of memory.

I'm hearing it's exclusive to PS4 and Sony paid a ton for it , I'll lol so hard if true.

Switch will probably catch PS4 fast in Japan and even if they try to appeal more to western audiences Japan still purchases 3-5 times as much Monster Hunter than the rest of the world combined.

- MH5 PS4 exclusive (paid by SONY)
- portable series coming to Switch

I`m never one to trust rumours, but if that were true wouldn`t that be kind of strange? I mean having the portable MH series on Switch would kind of defeat the purpose of Sony paying for a PS4 exclusive MH5.

Not at all. Reread the first post and the reasons that establish why MH5 on the PS4 makes sense. It would be made to appeal to the West, while the Portable series would come back in full as the dedicated handheld line of Monster Hunter games to continue appealing to Japan. If you're trying to appeal to the West, sticking with Nintendo and their dwindling popularity probably isn't the best choice. Nintendo handhelds have a chance to stay big in Japan, but if attempting to appeal to the West, Sony is really the way to go. Granted, they will actually have to put real, real work into making MH5 from the ground up for the PS4 instead of just porting and reusing assets and models. MH5 will flop if it looks and plays like a last gen game.

In the end, developers should realize that Japan has a pretty much opposite popuarity model compared to the rest of the world when it comes to dedicated gaming platforms. Western popularity means embracing home consoles as well as PC, while dedicated gaming handhelds are decidedly less prominent. SE is starting to get this which is a big reason why DQ XI will have a totally seperate handheld version to primarily appeal to Japan, while the PS4 version will be more catered to both Japanese gamers that want a big, pretty, console RPG, as well as the West where the PS4 version will have a much greater chance to succeed, compared to the 3DS version that is looking like it is going to launch after the 3DS is dead at this point.

Same here! And for me it works both ways as well. We'll finally play mk8, smash, 3D world franchise in a Console graphics on the go. And of course 3rd party games on the go.
