I`m never one to trust rumours, but if that were true wouldn`t that be kind of strange? I mean having the portable MH series on Switch would kind of defeat the purpose of Sony paying for a PS4 exclusive MH5. |
Not at all. Reread the first post and the reasons that establish why MH5 on the PS4 makes sense. It would be made to appeal to the West, while the Portable series would come back in full as the dedicated handheld line of Monster Hunter games to continue appealing to Japan. If you're trying to appeal to the West, sticking with Nintendo and their dwindling popularity probably isn't the best choice. Nintendo handhelds have a chance to stay big in Japan, but if attempting to appeal to the West, Sony is really the way to go. Granted, they will actually have to put real, real work into making MH5 from the ground up for the PS4 instead of just porting and reusing assets and models. MH5 will flop if it looks and plays like a last gen game.
In the end, developers should realize that Japan has a pretty much opposite popuarity model compared to the rest of the world when it comes to dedicated gaming platforms. Western popularity means embracing home consoles as well as PC, while dedicated gaming handhelds are decidedly less prominent. SE is starting to get this which is a big reason why DQ XI will have a totally seperate handheld version to primarily appeal to Japan, while the PS4 version will be more catered to both Japanese gamers that want a big, pretty, console RPG, as well as the West where the PS4 version will have a much greater chance to succeed, compared to the 3DS version that is looking like it is going to launch after the 3DS is dead at this point.
