In Japan only. They said they want to expand the franchise to the west. And Switch is an unknown quantity, could sell 10 millions or only 5 millions the first year, who knows? PS4 is a known quantity with ~60 millions consoles end of 2017, and people buy lots of different games on PS4. This is not the case for 3DS which is limited to specific genres. There is also the digital aspect to consider with 30% sales done digitally on consoles. Traditionnaly much lower on Nintendo consoles. And it won't improve with a console with only 32 GB of data included by default in the machine. It's clearly not a machine designed to buy digital games on it. |
Well if install base was a big concern, then few new consoles would get third party support in the first year or two. Localizing a Switch game is probably way cheaper than making the game look better on the PS4 or even the PS4Pro.
MH games are becoming more popular in the west even though they are on a handheld with way less than 32GB of memory.
