Greetings and welcome to the Discussion Thread for the 16th Annual Greatest Game Event! The heart and soul of the Greatest Game Event where we'll talk about our favorite games to our hearts content and try to guess each others games in the traditional guessing game.

All discussion is to be had in this thread and we encourage participants to engage as much as possible, guess or ask about other peoples games and rant about your own to your hearts content!

Well well here we are. Might a smaller crowd this year judging by early sign-ups but we were a bit late after all and should be fun either way.

As I mentioned on the Official Thread it's of course understandable if people can't get their lists ready to start posting November 12th, whatever pace works for you is perfectly fine

I’m excited! I have at least two new games to add to my top 50. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but my list changes at a glacial pace

I guess I should get around to updating my list for this year, got at least a couple of new games to add as well.

It is great to see this annual tradition on VGChartz continue! I need to go in an update my list from last year moving games around and adding a few games from this year. 

I have several new debuts actually so that's pretty exciting, even if some of them ended up lower than I expected during most of their runtime. There were two games that were actually top 10 candidates for a while there.

Alrighty it's just about time to get things started with honorable mentions and the like and I might have gone a little overboard on that part this year (intentionally).

I've always wanted to do a full Top 100 of my favorite games and while this event is all about top 50s I made a loosely ranked list of my #100-#51 spots this year. I also sort of wanted to do some brief write-ups for these, but yeaah that might have to be another time. My write-ups in general probably won't be longest, but I at least wanted to shout-out as many of my favorite games as possible (also there are some tied spots here, but that's ok since it's just honorable mentions)

Also I went ahead and color-coded my games with the classic rarity system Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary this year for fun.

#100 to #96 are sort of carry-overs from last year's special list. Games I played a ton earlier in life which are mostly just here for that reason.

Gotta sit down and make my list then pretty quick.

Let's get some honorable mentions out of the way, then. These are largely games that fell off the list from last year, and would basically be #51–55 if the list went that far.

Total Annihilation:

• Alongside Command & Conquer, this was the game that made me a fan of the RTS genre back in the mid-to-late 90s, and every once in a while I still go back and play a few matches to get a bit of that nostalgic feeling back. Total Annihilation has hung in my top 50 ever since I first started putting such a list together, but every year it's fallen a few spots further down, and now finally it's off the list completely. 

The Legend of Heroes: Trail to Azure:

• One of the many Trails games on my list, this one breaking into the top 50 just last year, though not very high. It's still a great game, just not quite good enough to hold on to its spot. 

Suikoden II:

• This is a game that I could actually see returning to the list at some point in the future once I get around to replaying it. It's been well over half-a-decade since I played through Suikoden II, and I have this feeling that the reason it's fallen off this far down is that I've just forgotten much of the experience. Basically, I just need to refresh my memory of the game to see if it still deserves to be on my list, but for the time being it has to give up its spot.

Final Fantasy XVI:

• Another game that made just a short visit into my top 50, and it's now gone. I still think FFXVI is a great game, but not quite among the series' best. Has its faults, but the vast majority of the experience was great.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie:

• One of two Trails games I played this year, and this one just barely missed breaking into the list. Largely an excellent game, but there are some issues holding it back enough to not warrant a spot in the top 50.
