| RolStoppable said: What isn't accurate about the PS2 figure is the date which they left at "as of March 31, 2012." Previously they had "more than 155.0m" at that same date with shipments that happened afterwards. But I'd say the unchanged date is just an oversight. The date is obviously false because previously we had elaborate maths to calculate the shipments that had happened after March 2012 and the resulting range added 4 to 7m more units to the PS2 total, giving us lifetime sales of 159-162m units. The PSP figure is as of March 2012, but we know this one is incomplete because shipments continued beyond that date. Vita isn't disclosed on purpose. The PS4 figure is also as of a date that doesn't constitute the end of its shipments. That's the difference between these three systems and the PS1, PS3 and PS5 where the figures are either end of life or up to date which makes all of them accurate. There's no 50/50 chance of where the PS2 belongs when you think about it. 160.0m is its end of life number. |
I agree on the first two paragraphs. But facts are facts. The 50/50 chance I talked about was purely about the accuracy of the given numbers on the Sony page within 100k and if PS2 numbers belong to the group of within 100k, or not (for example actual PS2 numbers may be 160.2 or 160.3M). The 3 consoles that don't have data within 100k of the actual shipments are PSP, Vita and PS4. The other 3 are within 100k accuracy. Based only on this, it's 50/50 chance of PS2 being within 100k of the given "more than 160.0M" or not. I also think that PS2 barely passed the 160M mark, but judging only by the data Sony wrote on this page is not the way to go in my opinion. Both birthday page and that data page by Sony lists the PS2 as "more than 160.0M" or "over 160M". So it's not exactly 160.0M. How much more, until that 160.63M is a mistery, since there has to be amount reserved for the kiosks, demo and promotional units too.
