Data has been updated with week 27 from Famitsu.
- XBOX Series vs Xbox 360 '12 (72k)
was changed to
- XBOX Series vs PS3 '16 (55k)
I had to do this some time ago, but I wanted to see if the XBSX pace will change .. I wanted to changed that to something more possible for the XBSX current pace which would be something like 35-40k, but there is no such a system, therefore the closest one is the PS3 in it's 2016 year with 55k.
- Nintendo Switch 2 vs NSW + PS5 2025
was changed to:
- Nintendo Switch 2 vs NSW '19 (4.45M) vs NSW '20 (6.4M)
With the launch weeks it became clear that the Switch 2 has reached new records, and is chasing new ones for a launch year. That's why the launch years of consoles such as Switch 1 (3.3M) or even the 3DS (4.3M), seems like low ball for it. At this time 4.3M may not seem that low, but when we look at the number 3DS did that year, the only competition for the Switch 2 pace may be the holidays (even that is debatable). The normal weeks were anything between 50k and 20k for the first half and 50k and 70k for the second half of that year after the price cut. The Switch 2 pace is much more stronger. Therefore it needs a challenge. The NSW '19 year is keeping very close for the moment, but it will also be left behind once Switch 2 continue it's pace of sales over 100k for the following months, since NSW had weeks between 40k and 70k until the Lite released. If that record pace continue only the peak year of the Switch 1 can hold a candle to the Switch 2 this year which sits at 6.4M. The most weeks of that year were between 70k and 120/130k. Let's see how big of a challenge that will turn out for the Switch 2 till end of the year. I personally expect final numbers of anything between 5 and 6M but won't be surprised if it blows past the 6M number and even beat the peak Switch 1 year, when taking in matter the record breaking launch, the record weeks that continues to do, and the high chance of also record breaking holiday period as well. I have never had any doubts about beating the NSW1 or both PS5 and NSW1 in 2025 year with the initial comparisons, however I expected catching up and especially going far higher than their combined level (since this is when I change the comparisons) to take more time, and because of that, that to be the comparison for this year. And then to put more challenging competitors for the new system starting from next year, but it seems Switch 2 is hungry for competition right out of the gate. Let's give it one!
