So, the breakdown and additional information for every comparison is the following:
- PlayStation 2 vs Nintendo DS (160M & 154M)
First of all, here, I will note that the chart is my old one which is PS2 vs DS, it is based on sales and shipments numbers combined (slightly corrected or rounded for the chart line where info wasn't presented because it is for every 4 months, not every 3 months like the official data of shipments is here, therefore it is accurate as possible, but of course can't be 100% on point for every period, because we don't have the exact data on sales for the PS2 by month or for every 4 months). And because the data in the table is shipments only (and is by 3 months quarters and the chart is divided by every 4 months) there may be some slight differences between it and the chart if you look at exact line and date. Officially as of end of 2024, PS2 sold over 160M however we don't have info on anything after March 2012. Since there were some miscalculations or misinformation, of 2007 numbers, because that is the point where the shipments go to sales, the difference was 2.32M, and I went ahead and removed approximately 580k for each of those quarters of 2007, in order to get 155.1M by March 2012 as is the official report. The 160M sold numbers came in late 2024, with a date of 2012, but in order to be exact with the numbers, and shipment reports up to March 2012, I put those extra units for the quarter after this which is the only logical thing to do.
Here are the official shipment numbers (in the comparison table, they are the same up till 2007, from there they are sales numbers).
- PlayStation 1 vs Nintendo Wii (102.5M & 101.6M) (Shipments)
On that one, both are shipment numbers by calendar quarters, with the Wii reaching almost 40M lead at one point, and finishing below PS1 in the end.
- PlayStation 3 vs Xbox 360 (87.4M & 85.7M) (Sales)
Interesting to point here is that PS3 at one point is almost 11M ahead, just to drop the lead to 1.6M in the end.
- PlayStation Portable vs GBA (82.5M & 81.5M)
Interesting to point here is how much better selling was the GBA in the beginning and what small difference it makes in the end from the PSP and even falls behind it by just a hair.
