Forums - Politics Discussion - Saudi Arabia's king issues order allowing women to drive

Small step towards obtainig a liberal democracy and equality for all in Saudi Arabia. They still have harsh laws in Saudi Arabia. Hand is cut off for stealing, you will get put to death for adultery, crucifixion for murder, death penalty for treason/blasphemy and it is 80 lashes for drinking alcohol. A long term vision of Saudi Arabia embracing a society with social liberal values on par with Europe, Canada and the USA, etc.

A good move but showcases Islams backward hold on the middle east as a flawed religion.

What religion is not flawed in your opinion?

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

I don't see how this changes anything... I mean it's not like women can drive anywhere else.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I hope that the feminist movements around the world can continue to get traction, if it weren't for all the brave women who spoke out against their brutal regime, we wouldn't even be getting the slight improvements that we are!! But let's not stop there, there is still much to be done!

But the feminist icon says Saudi Arabia is great for women -10 weeks paid maternity trumps everything apparently.

Which is still pretty low by (most) Western standards.

Good, if we can now get the rape and sexual assult laws sorted out so that they don't punish the victim Saudi Arabia might yet arrive in the 16th century.

Step in the right direction. Let me check - well, Saudi Arabia is still the most backward and evil country in the world, but maybe now only 3 centuries behind. Go on this course, and you might become part of the world.

Most important step: Stop this war against Jemen.

I think you'll find the salafi Saudi family is far more backwards and has a stronger hold in the middle east than Islam.

They have been funding extreme conservative theology since coming into power, making things which were permissable impermissible and taking the middle east into the dark ages.

Also, the religion isn't backwards as much as some people who follow it are. Nothing is stopping anyone who has any religion to do anything which is forward thinking or progressive.

E. G.

1) one of the first ever constitutions was written by the Muslim prophet.

2) the first ever University was created by a Muslim Arab woman.

3) great advances in astrology and algebra came from Muslim Arabs

4) some of the leading scientists in the field of embryology and neurology are Muslims who are inspired and driven by their faith.

5) you have muslim cosplayers, sports men and women, actors, singers, magicians, etc

The issue always has been and will be the Saud family who are known historically to be a barbaric tribe with extreme views, that were hand picked by Britain to be put in power since they were the furthest away from what the ottomans were in their belief.
