Forums - Gaming - Have you ever skipped systems from your preferred console maker, and if so which and why?

From Sony, I only skipped PSP.

Never got the Gameboy. Got the Gameboy Color and Advance though.

I was always a handheld guy when I was younger. I loved my Gameboy and Gameboy Advance. So what I wanted was a beefier GBA. But Nintendo delivered the Nintendo DS. Which they announced as a "third pillar". But we never got a new Gameboy, sadly. But just around that time the PSP came around. Which was exactly what I wanted. So I skipped the DS and changed to Sony. I never regretted it. The PSP was an absolute joy. Especially a little later with CFW and all that. Those were some of my best years in gaming.

I wasn't all that excited for the Wii, so because of my good experiences with the PSP, I went with the PS3. And I loved that console! It was packed, I even ran Linux on that thing!

But as soon as Nintendo dropped the Switch, I was back on the Nintendo Hype Train. I mean I still have a PS5 Pro, but I barely use it. Since the launch of the Switch, it was my main gaming platform. Now it's the Switch 2.

Yes, I skipped on the Wii U and didn't buy one until 2018 - after the Switch released. I really like the console now but it didn't appeal to me at all at the time.

Before that I'd owned every Nintendo console (Mainline & Handheld) since the N64 back in 1997.

For Nintendo, I only skipped the Virtual Boy. I've been on board with every other Nintendo console, and was a day one adopter of the Switch 2 (the only console I've ever gone to a midnight launch for, mostly because I wanted to spend time with my nephew who is also into gaming).

Nope. I have been through all the mainline PS consoles. Haven't bought the handhelds, but I don't consider that skipping because I see them as just a peripheral to the main console that I don't need.

The PS6 coz I’ll not buy a £1000 system ever.

Skipped most portable system, because small screens, small speakers are awful. And the controller layout is painful. Never liked portables. I want the full monte via home consoles.

Switch 2

Wii U. I actually tried to pre-order it pre launch but it was sold out. I really wanted Rayman Legends but then it got delayed and went multiplatform. A few months after launch it was clear the console was in trouble so I never bought one. Most Wii U's best games came to Switch and I enjoyed them there.

When i really think about it, I have only ever skipped the Atari 5200 and the Nintendo VirtualBoy. This is because I was pretty satisfied with the 2600 and then later got the 7800 and beyond. The VB was because it really did not interest me. Of course years later i can experience those games on modern NS2 so I still have no desire to own a real unit.

i have and still own every other release from the respective companies. Atari, SEGA, MS, Sony, Nintendo
