I didn't get the WiiU because I went through a period of my life where I didn't play any video games at all. If we're counting handhelds, I didn't get the DS or the 3DS either.

Overall, I've liked both Nintendo and Playstation.

For Nintendo, I skipped the N64 and only bought the Gamecube after the Wii released.  Mario 64 is not a mainline Mario game.  It's a spinoff, and I wasn't interested.  When the Wii released, I got interested in Nintendo again.  I also didn't own a Gameboy or Gameboy Color.  I got interested in handhelds, because of the GBA and I've owned every Nintendo handheld since.  Also, I don't own a Switch 2 yet, but I'll get one soon, because of the coming price increase.

For Playstation, I didn't own a Vita, because it's library was a lot less impressive compared to the PSP.  I also don't own a PS5 and probably never will.  That is a lot of money to shell out for a system that only has a very small amount of titles that I'm interested in.

Yes Xbox Series
I was huge Xbox fan during 360 and even One era, but they made Xbox completely obsolete with zero exclusives.
I just wish that Spencer was never put on charge of brand.
If someone who knows what he doing was put in charge instead of guy who most likely dont even know how to put these shirts that he parade on all conventions without wife's help, Xbox would most likely be much much better position.

Yeah I'm in the same boat; my parents never got me a Gameboy when I was a kid as they thought when you're outside the house you should be enjoying the outdoors and being social rather than playing games, so I never got into the whole handheld thing and so never bought a GBA or DS despite being a big Nintendo fan.

During the NES era (well, in Brazil, post 2600 consoles only arrived around 1989, and Sega was the only one that did it officially - I had a "alternative" console that was a "NES", called Phantom System), I was more of a Konami-Tecmo-Capcom (in that order) player than a Nintendo software fan - I loved Mario, of course, but loved Ninja Gaiden, Contra and Castlevania more -, but their games were in Nintendo platforms back in the day, so I would want to play those. When the Genesis arrived and I first played Strider, I almost decided otherwise (we didn't have money for more than one console) and came colse to getting one, but it wasn't long until I saw F-Zero playing at an import store and I had NEVER seen anything like it, and that was a factor for me to follow up my NES with a SNES (a "proper" one this time). Later on, during my University years, I was very close to getting a PS1, but my best friend already had one and we came to an agreement that I would get a 64 so we could play both systems, and up to this day I love that decision as I 1. did not have as much time to play games, so the "droughts" would not affect me much and 2. I think 64 was a far superior system as far as gameplay goes (only game I ever really really envied from the PS was SotN). But then the 2000s came, I had a computer at home, started playing on PC and I didn't care at all for any of the systems from that time, plus I was recently graduated and had a son to take care, so I skipped Game Cube and did not have an active system in my room for about 8 years, when I got very impressed by the Wii in 2008 and its joint gameplay capabilities, plus it had many games my son could play, and it had Resort AND Brawl that we played together a lot. Wii introduced me to Monster Hunter (see my profile Pic), and because of it I ended up getting a WiiU pretty much because of MH3U and to keep playing the Wii library. I was not much of a handlhled guys, even if I did have a gameboy and a GBA which were mostly for my son to play, but when the Switch arrived I loved it from the get go. So, this is the story of why I have had all Nintendo home consoles except the GC. Not because of a love of Nintendo, but because of particular circumstances, and a kind of "comfort" with knowing theirs tend to be good quality hardware.

Sony permanently. I disagree with their first party games strategy.

I had absolutely zero interest in the Virtual Boy, so there's that. But regarding Nintendo's other systems I wasn't big on the Game Boy. The tech was just underwhelming and there wasn't much I cared about on the platform.  I finally did purchase a Game Boy Pocket sometime in 1997 only because I started a job with a lot of down time and because I wanted to play Zelda.

I've owned every other Nintendo system though and, starting with the Game Boy Advance, they've all been launch day purchases and I only felt truly let down by WiiU. Even with the first year software droughts of the N64 and Gamecube I was still having a blast with the excellent games that were available. The DS and 3DS also had poor first years but the former ended up one of my favorite systems once the Lite released and the latter... eh... it became decent, I guess. But that first year of the WiiU (at least until Pikmin 3) was terrible and was the only time I was very disappointed with Nintendo in general.  Fortunately, the system did end up with a few great games in the end.

I've owned PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4, but I haven't bought a PS5, and I won't at this point. There are a few reasons, mainly it's about pricing and a lack of enticing exclusives, Sony have released many of their in-house hits on PC, and the machine itself is just too expensive for what it is (in my opinion). 

The PS4 had a lot more going for it by way of software. Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, God of War, all exclusive (at the time) and of great quality, meanwhile, there's no Gran Turismo this gen, no Last of Us, no Uncharted, no God of War (exclusive). For me, the PS5 is the most uninteresting generation for Playstation so far, and I just haven't been able to motivate a purchase, it hasn't exactly helped that prices have increased at least two times on top of everything else.  

I love Fujitsu, but I unfortunately had to skip out on the FM Towns Marty.

To an extent, I guess you could say I skipped Wii U and 3DS… but it was more that my parents bought me the systems when I was little and never played them. The first 3DS game I beat was Mario 3D Land in 2022, and first Wii U game (outside of Skylanders) would’ve been BotW…but I beat that on Switch. I’ve never fully played through a game on Wii U outside of Skylanders.
