Forums - Gaming - Have you ever skipped systems from your preferred console maker, and if so which and why?

Almost did it with xb360 but it lasted me 3 month due to the red ring of death. It pissed me off so much I went back to sony.

The reason I went with xb360 was because I was impressed with the graphics and ps3 hadnt released yet plus the price.

Never skipped a system from Nintendo, Playstation or Xbox.

Though I'm very unlikely to get Xbox's next machine.

Never skipped a system that came out after I was born lol.

I haven't skipped PS main consoles, but when my PS3 broke, I didn't buy another. PS6 being more than $600 will probably get a pass from me too.

Unless things get a lot better until late 2028 (launch windown IMO) the PS6 is very likely going to ve over $600, the PS5 costs $650 right now.

Even with Sony being ok with taking a decent hit to sell PS6s early on, $700 is our best hope right now. I do believe things will be better by late 2028, so at least there is still some hope in me that $600 is possible by then.

Then I wait for the mythical price cuts. Already the PS4 gets most PS5 games, so I suspect PS5 will be good until then. If not price cut, just 2 years until PS7.

I had a PS2, PS3 and PSP, but I skipped on the PS Vita until 2020 when I grabbed one for a good price and mainly used it to play PS1 and PSP games.
While my brothers and I shared a PS4 (Christmas gift) I rarely touched it, so I guess maybe this could be considered skipping it? I grabbed a PS5 and that's how I'm experiencing PS4 games for the first time.
The reason I skipped the Vita was I just didn't really get into playing my PSP, so I had no interest in having a Vita until way later.
The reason I skipped on PS4 was I kept playing my PS2 and PS3 so I was satisfied. Also, this is when I got more into Nintendo so I was occupied playing on my DS, Wii, Wii U, and in 2015 finally got a 3DS. All these systems and plenty of games for me to play was enough.

To add to this I will be skipping the PS6. Their single player games don't appeal to me anymore and the multiplat games I can just get on PC. The two PS5 games I liked from them are Astro Bot and Sackboy. Going forward if games like that do interest me PlayStation will need to put them on PC or Switch 2 for me to buy them. I will not spend hundreds potentially a thousand on a console for a few games.

I skipped the Vita because the hardware, while solid, was no PSP (the only dedicated handheld I bought) and its library just wasn't good enough to me. I also technically don't "own" a PS5, but I have access to it most of the time and it's been my primary gaming system since 2023.

PS5 should get most games for years.

No pricecuts for the PS6 tho lol

I skipped the N64 because they didn’t put Metroid on the system and to be honest a quick rental satisfied my desire to play the games I was interested in: Mario 64 and Zelda. I worked at a videostore at the time and had access to basically the entire library and never bothered to rent the system again. In retrospect, for my tastes, I made the right decision.

I became a Sony fan at that point. Until they changed course with the PS3 and I’ve never gone back. Also the right decision.

You are most optimistic than I am.  I hope to be wrong, and very well could, but I would be stunned if the ps6 isn't $800.  

The ps5 is roughly a 6700xt, the ps6 needs to be targeting a 7800xt to have a large leap?  I mean that is a $600+ GPU straight up.  I think anything less than 32 gb of ram is a terrible idea, so add another $400..  still need a PSU, CPU, MB, case, storage, etc.  I get Sony will get better pricing, but I don't see how they could possibly stay anywhere near $600.
