Forums - Nintendo - Starfox, a reimagining of Starfox 64, out now on Switch 2

It's hard for me to understand why someone would play a game for 2 hours, have an absolute blast with it, discover that it has different paths with different missions as well as a challenge mode and a fun local/online multiplayer... and proceed to drop the game entirely and go rant online about it being "2 hours long". If you liked the game and there's still stuff to do and specially if the base story is short and left you hungry for more... Why would you decide to starve yourself? It doesn't make any sense xD

I get it when we are talking some Persona 5-like duration game that takes dozens of hours to see the credits. Replaying that or doing a New Game + playthrough requires a crap ton of time and even if you liked the game, you just don't want to put another 80 hours into it. But 2? Holy shit, just keep shooting pal xD

I can only speak for myself:

1) I have already played the game, all paths, so it isn't new, but just more graphical.

2) Multiple paths still have the same level 1 and final level, at some point playing the same level (1 and final) a dozen times gets old.

3) The game being 2 hours isn't the problem, the price tag of $50/$60 is the bigger problem.  If it were $30/$40, I don't think anyone would bark.

Edit

The barking is because of the combination of remake+short+price (shorter version).

Switch 2

Yet another Switch 2 announcement that leaves me wondering what happened to Nintendo...almost every decision they have made this gen is just BAD. They've gotten so complacent this gen, feels like they just completely gave up on their fans. Really who cares about a remake when people have been dying for a new Star Fox for so long. Every single time I wonder if Nintendo is gonna try to turn this gen around and actually start making decisions that would make me potentially have even a little interest in the Switch 2 (which really isn't hard as a primarily Nintendo gamer for nearly 4 decades now) it's just another swing and miss.

I guess the only upside is that they went down to more reasonable $50/$60 pricing for this rather than $60/$70, that at least is surprising for Nintendo these days.

(also agree on SF64 being super short. I remember beating it the day I got it, first time I'd ever beaten a game the day I bought it and I was like ummm really?? that's it? lol. It's a good game and sure there are multiple paths and multiplayer but that day back in '97 or whatever it was I couldn't believe the game was so short and easy that I beat it after just a few hours the day I bought it, gave me such an empty feeling even though it was a fun game. And even with the multiple paths and multiplayer it had to have been one of my least played N64 games just cuz there wasn't much to it)

Anybody able to find fps information? I assume locked 60 fps, but was curious if there was a 120 fps mode. For the record 60 fps is fine, perfectly fine. I was just curious if Prime 4 was a one off or if Nintendo was going to start going after it.

I can't find any info on this, but I would assume 60fps given the graphics on display and the Switch 2's hardware.

120fps is very demanding, especially when you're working with hardware below Series S in raw power.

Yeah, I'd be honestly surprised of a 120fps performance mode for what looks like a native Switch 2 game that clearly pushes the graphics further than most Nintendo outings this generation yet.

Actually, I'm curious as to how it'll perform in handheld mode as well. Could be a real stunner there !

They likely only had two years or less to get this done, Fox being in the Mario Galaxy movie was something only added once the movie was deep into production, so they likely had to decide then what kind of project was feasible to be out by the time the movie was. Honestly may have been less than 2 years. I would like a new game too, but they probably could not have gotten that done close enough to the movie's release which would have then kind of taken the air out of having Fox in the movie.

This is primarily for kids seeing the movie and getting them to play a Star Fox game ASAP. The emphasis on new cinematic cut sequences (which look quite nice) is also tailored to people coming out of the movie, they're making the franchise more cinematic. If the game sells alright they probably will allow the team to make a new game.

Again as I said this is the Nintendo Movie era pretty much. A lot is going to revolve around the movie release calendar. Wouldn't be surprised if a new 2D Donkey Kong and/or Donkey Kong Country Trilogy with redone graphics is being readied for the Donkey Kong movie that seems slated for 2028. We know the Zelda movie is 2027.

I'm not crazy about how Fox looks. When he is talking to the general his face is too wide and his snout is too short. He looks like he has been living on space McDonalds 3 meals a day. Apart from that it looks pretty and may be a good engine for a new game, one that may not take more than a few years.

I think I would have been ok with the cartoony visuals from that snippet of the Mario Galaxy movie. It would age better I think. It is what it is though, I haven't played any of the other remakes.

As for the price, it seems reasonable. The online multiplayer looks like it could be quite a bit of fun and hopefully adds to the replay value.

I'm taken a back at how good this game looks. What is the Ocarina of Time remake going to look like!?

Star Fox 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. This remake looks so awesome. Definite day one purchase.
