Forums - General - What’s a skill you’ve recently learned? Or a new habit you’ve started?

Looks like the thread got unbroken. That's good.

Relevant to the thread, but by time we're done working on my truck I'll know how to replace a manual transmission. My clutch completely died on me last weekend. I can't do all the work by myself and my current roommate is helping me, but I am learning about what needs to be done.

I'm not a gearhead like my BFF and his family, but I have picked up some things from them over the decades, and I do own his family home that belonged to him and his father before him (I was renting a room and didn't want to move, so I bought the house from my friend when he got engaged and he and his fiancee decided to move), which has a standalone two-car garage in the back yard for doing vehicle work. Lots of time spent hanging out in there back in the 90s & 00s. Spend enough time around people like that and you're eventually going to learn somethings about cars. Definitely more complicated than cooking, which I'm mostly self-taught. Had to learn to cook more than ramen, pork chops, and spaghetti after I moved out of my parents' house 20+ years ago.

It's a bit cliché, but I've started incorporating light exercise and stretching into my morning routine. Since I started doing this, I feel like I'm having a better day

I've done something similar. Any time I'm going to take a shower I do a few push-ups. Trying to make daily exercise seem as natural as brushing my teeth. if I can to that everyday of course I can get some light workout done each day as well.

Another habit that I recently started to incorporate is thinking of everyday task, simple things, that i can improve the efficiency of to save time and/or energy. Just by asking myself "is there a better way to do this?". I already do that at work but trying to improve my own time feels more valuable to me than improving for someone else.

I also recently started writing on the phone on the commute to and from work. Since that is time I can't spend on much anyway I never feel like there are other more important things I need to do. Works pretty well even if it is difficult for me to snap out of it when I arrive if I get into a good flow.

Not as strong as others, but recently I lerned to program in Go (I could programming already, but Go is a new language) and learned how to produce WebAssembly and include it in Websites to interact. This is interesting and gives me a new toolkit to do things.

I am slowly learning to be more sociable. Before I would share very little about myself and generally be not trusting of people. I wouldn't ask people about their day because I assumed they didn't care.

Now maybe they don't care, but it often leads to more conversation that matters more.

Thinking like a CBT therapist. I've done it before but I keep getting discouraged and frustrated with myself but I really got into the mindset this past few days taking on someone's advice to me which made me see the process in a new light. I'm hoping I can make a strong habit of it so I can get my shit together and stop falling apart and be better at life and have a social life.

Same as you, I changed stretching to the morning after the tutor doing a wellbeing course I'm attending adviced on so and it does make a difference. I feel lighter on my feet.
