Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Game Pass Changes - New Benefits, New Names, Ultimate Now $30/Month

Since the growth has slowed down close to the point of stagnation, they're hoping to at least get as much money as they can from the existing subscribers. These mass cancellations may force them to reverse their decision, like they did after trying to double the price of Xbox Live Gold back in 2022~.

That would be great. But I don't see it happening this time. Maybe they lower the price to say $25/month or offer an annual plan for a discount say like $300.

At this point it feels like Xbox's leadership are plants put in place to destroy the brand, for the past several years its like they can't go two months without making some horrible new decision that pisses of their customers and kneecaps sales.

Sounds like too many people are trying to cancel at the same time, that the website to cancel is crashing.

Yep.

https://twistedvoxel.com/xbox-game-pass-price-hike-sparks-backlash-as-cancellation-website-crashes/

So much for Gamepass being the "best deal in gaming". $360 a year for a rental service.

Its what I said in the article comments.
This will cost them a million or two subscriptions.

Social Media is full of pictures of people posting the cancelled subscription replies screenshots.
(ei. people are following through, and posting picture proof of them cancelling it)

Same thing happens on a few forums as well.
Neogaf has a thread called "Is Game Pass Ultimate going to survive?"
It has alot of cancelled screenshots.

Thats just the vocal minority of gamers though.
The real issue is probably the non gamerbro, thats now going "30$ is too much" and cancelling... the type that doesn't go on forums or social media.

I think part of this is also from reward system changes and limits to how much you can earn in rewards, now being tied to the tier of subscription you have. Alot of the "broke" sit at home play all day types, probably got gamepass for near free, from all the rewards you could wrack up. Those types cannot support gamepass that way anymore.

So that is what happends.
People cancel subscriptions or change them to lower tier ones.

These prices VS PS+ make for stark reading:

$17.99 - PS+ Premium

And unlike MS they offer annual subs, so technically you can get PS+ premium from $13.33/month, compared to the $30/month from MS. No annual sub through the MS Store.

So yeah, if you want to buy in long term then PS+ Premium is less than half GP Ultimate now.

But PS+ Premium doesn't include day one games so they're not really comparable subs.

Why did you cut my quote?  I wrote this:

$9.99 - PS+ Essental

$14.99 - PS+ Extra

$17.99 - PS+ Premium

Obviously the services are different, but to the general public the price is the deciding factor.

I clearly stated that "Obviously the services are different, but to the general public the price is the deciding factor.".

Saying Day one is the deciding factor is you're opinion, not any sort of fact.  Many older gamers like me don't care for Day one releases because we have busy lives and large back logs.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

At that point then its basically:
Gamepass Premium (15$ pr month)  ~200 game titles.
vs
Playstation Plus Premium (13$ pr month (if you go for a full year subcription at 159$)) ~650 game titles.
(they add games you can keep too with your subcription every month, as long as your subscribed)

Honestly Ps Plus Preimum looks like better value.
Even the Essential tier (if you go for a year's subscription works out to like 6$ a month) being cheaper than xbox's 9.99$.

Very good video and points:

Yeah corporate greed is getting absolutely out of hand.

Like, I get that Trump's tariffs are out of MS/Sony/Nintendo's hands, and that inflation is a reality, but come on, the pricing on almost everything in the console sector is just getting ridiculous.

MS is a multi-trillion dollar corporation that continues to post record profits, all while laying off thousands, shuttering studios, and raising their prices to obscene levels.

I really hope we start seeing pushback to all this, cos its creating a market where many people are simply going to be priced out of console gaming.

A $360 yearly subscription is insane. Just buy the latest COD at that point and it's yours to keep.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

I wonder if the 360 a year is to play homage to the Xbox 360.
Just need an Xbox 360 classic with Xbox live that we can have an online subscription and all would be right in the world.

I have been very much against subscriptions to play my games, so this doesn't impact me even in the slightest.

--::{PC Gaming Master Race}::--

Is this 4D chess?

Did MS decide the hardware and gamepass isn't worth it to them in the future and are just pricing them out of existence?
