It all began in the early 2010s.

I had a friend who was all into 7th gen. He had bought an PS3, while I had... Well, a PS2. That friend loved the Resident Evil ambience, but he could never get into the original trilogy, since he thought it was very outdated. Once he got a Playstation 3, he kept telling me how amazing Resident Evil 5 was. He was all about it.

Once I got my hands on an amazing Geforce 9500GT with an impressive 512MB of VRAM, I could finally play Resident Evil 5... And... It did not go well.

Yes, the game was stunning visually, but the gameplay was very... odd. I hated how you needed to babysit Sheeva all the way while she takes stupid actions. And the game was absolutely not scary at all. I mean, why the heck does it never gets dark? The whole gameplay takes place on daylight, and it only starts to get tense when you reach the facility, and it is honestly way too late.

Yeah, it gave me a bad taste. So, even when Capcom showed that amazing trailer for Resident Evil 6 at... E3, I think? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I had very, very low expectations for the new chapter in the franchise.

It was early 2013 when I could get my hands on the PC version of Resident Evil 6, and... Man, I'm glad I did it!

The first thing I liked about it: The setting. Facing the infected at night in China feels much better than at the heat of midday. I know some people who dislike the graphics in this game, saying that it feels inferior to RE5. But I think it's more because of the lack of illumination, since most of the time in RE6 you will spend with very dark scenarios. I have no complains about it, it's a PS3/360 game after all. And I still like it. I remember the first time I played Leon's campaign. That beggining at the campus was already better than the entire Resident Evil 5 for me.

Is it scary? No. But neither was the previous game. The main difference here is that Resident Evil 6 is actually a great action game. I just love fighting the creatures. It feels really good to progress. And I don't know why, but in any action game I hate dying multiple times, but in this particular game, I just don't care. Everytime I fail, I gladly press the restart button and try again.

Of course, I do think RE6 has it's flaws. The plot is not very interesting at all. Some scenes feels kinda strange considering the previous games. It's like Capcom didn't knew how to handle the story after Raccoon City. But since they kinda did a great job fixing it with Resident Evil 7, I think the story of the sixth chapter is now passable.

Leon's campaign was amazing, Chris campaign was great, and Jake's campaing is very playable. Believe it or not, I didn't finished Ada's Story. Will do it now that I'm replaying the game for the... I don't know, maybe 6th time.

TL, DR: I think Resident Evil 6 is an incredible action game with a very pleasant gameplay and it should not be bashed just because it's not an horror game at all. RE5 was much weaker and it was well received.

It's Michael Bay's Resident Evil. It's a terrible game. Nothing against anyone who likes it. We all have at least 1 to a few of those games.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Co-op RE5 is the way to go, OP.

RE6 has very few redeeming qualities, though.

I appreciate the perspective!

I don’t think RE6 is a bad game but I also don’t think it’s a good game. And it has nothing to do with the fact that it strayed away from series conventions. It’s just too focused on narrative and presentation at the expense of gameplay.

As for RE5, I consider it one of the best co-op games of that generation. It’s a bit dumb and not at all scary, but the action is excellent, particularly with a friend along for the ride.

Resident Evil 6 is by far the worst in the series and not a good game at all

Both seem so shit to me but I will forever remember RE5 as that one racist game, Idk if it was the magazines or the Internet at the time but journos had me convinced that game went out of it's way to be racist until I later learned it's just cause it's set in an African country, watched some Lets play and the journos were the ones being racist for thinking it's racist.

I used to play RE2 and RE3 with a friend as a kid on my PS1, and also on his PC later on. We loved it, we had zero understanding about english and were like 8 and 9 years old at first, so figuring out shit was great, and it was scary.

Then he got a PS2 and when RE4 released he got it as a gift and good God that was one of the best shit we ever touched.

It took me too long to get a PS2, I played on his until like 2010, by the time he already had a PS3, but I don't remember why he did not get RE5 there, but on PC, so we played it there, and it was a lot of fun, eventually he also got if on PS3 and we played it there too.

When RE6 was about to get released we both got really hyped and made some marathons playing from 2 to 5 on my PS1 and PS2 and his PS3.
We played RE6 on release day, it was one of the very few times I played a game on the same day it came out, and boy... what a mixed bag.

I still remember we trying to figure out the game, we got really excited during Leon campaign because it felt like it was going to be like 2, but it eventually felt so short and strange, we realised the game was all about getting to see different stories crossing ways and painting a bigger picture, which we felt like was a great idea, but by Cris part it already felt like we were playing different games.

When we finally got to Jake part the excitement was gone, there was curiosity but it really dragged on.

I love Ada but her part was not great either.

We still done everything the game had, got the platinum, did all challenges, but it really didn't feel great like the other games.

RE5 doesn't feel like RE at all but it was a lot of fun to play, we never got bored of it.

I think if RE6 was in Leon campaing style only it could be great, but it feels like it tries to much and loses itself in the way.

I stopped playing Resident Evil games when Resident Evil 4 came out. The new direction of the series just wasn't for me. I liked the slower gameplay with a lot of puzzles from the original trilogy. I never really tried to get back into the series. But I guess I could give the remakes a try.

As for RE6: I only heard bad things about that game, but I'm kinda glad that at least someone seems to enjoy it, lol. I can somewhat relate to that. I am a huge fan of FF13 which everyone else on the planet seems to hate with a passion. =D

I enjoyed RES 6 personally. It has some issues for sure, that ice cave level with the stealth on the Jake and Sherry was BS, and there are some set pieces that feel over the top, but overall I found the action gameplay, storyline, wide variety of characters, and the relationships between the characters good. Much more enjoyable than several other games in the series imo. I personally think 5 is the worst in the series while 6 isn't even in the bottom 5.

I've always thought Resident Evil 6 is an amazing Action-adventure, but a bad survival horror. People compare it to the other Resident Evil games instead of action-adventure games like Uncharted. Resident Evil 6 has better combat than Uncharted (a duck 'n' cover shooter), and more content. I think if Resident Evil 6 wasn't a Resi game, it would have been better received (like in the 90%+ range) and even compared to Uncharted.
Anyway, Resident Evil 6 for me is a mixed bad of sweets for me. Leon's and Ada's campaign were amazing. Ada's campaign was genuinely scary and Leon's was scary in parts (like in the first 2 chapters). Chapter 2 Leon is my fav part, where he makes his way through the graveyard to the cathedral and Zombie's (genuine zombies not seen since the original trilogy) come out of the graves.
I did like the action cutscenes too. The action gameplay was fun but not scary at all. Like I said, it was a pick 'n' mix of goodies.
The story was cliche particularly the main boss was a no-body, he was a weak replacement for Wesker. But one thing I likes about the story is all the character came together, Leon finally meets Chris etc, you could call it fan service but I really liked moments like that.

Anyway, I've been playing Resident Evil since the original trilogy on the PS1, then I got Resident Evil 1 remake, 0, CV, and 4 for the GameCube. I was super hyped for 4 cos it felt like a lifetime between 3/CV and 4. The wait was really long for me at the time, it might have been my age at the time but it felt forever since they released a new Resident Evil game. Resident Evil 4 was amazing and I finished it a lot of times.
Then was super hyped for 5. I really enjoyed it, but it felt like Resident Evil 4 in parts, which wasn't a bad thing, it just didn't feel as fresh as it could have been, such as the village part were the chainsaw guy got replaced but the executioner (hammer guy). Plus the chainsaw guy made a return but in a different style. It seemed to be mostly set in day which didn't make it have the same eerie feeling of dread as 4.
Then Resident Evil 6 came out. I was hyped for that too. It was way more action than the others in the series and felt it needed to get back to it's survival horror roots (even though I enjoyed playing it at the time).
Then when 7 came out, I waited for a while to save up for PSVR. IT WAS AMAZING IN VR. This is my fav game of the 8th generation and I'd go as far to say it's the most important game of the 8th gen because it pushed VR unlike any VR game in an industry of online-battle royal clones, souls-like clones, every game had an open-world for the sake of it even if it didn't suit it. Gameplay mechanics/genres felt the same as other games I had already played before but with a slightly different skin/themes.
Whereas Resi 7 felt fresh. I didn't know what to expect around every corner. It was really scary and didn't rely on jump scares as much, it had the feeling of dread which I prefer. I got the gold edition cos I held back to play it in all it's glory on PSVR. The Gold Edition had so much content I felt like I was spoilt. A VR game way ahead of it's time. I remember thinking all VR games will be like this in the distant future.
Then Resident Evil 2 & 3 remakes came out. I really enjoyed them too. Resident Evil 2 remake was super scary.
Then Resident Evil 8 Village came out. I was super hyped and waited for PSVR2 to come out before playing it. I really enjoyed it too. It didn't have the same level of content that 7 had but I enjoyed it still. I do prefer 7 because of it's closed-in environments. But it did feel fresh exploring the snowy open-outdoors. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to Resident Evil 9 & 0/1/CV/5/6 remakes too. Plus they'll remaster/remake 7 & 8 at some point afterwards too.

I've went on one of my tangents again. I get carried away on VGChartz's forums all the time, especially when talking about Resident Evil. I was meant to only talk about Resident Evil 6, but ended up explaining my experience with the whole series lol.
If anyone is still reading this, thank you and hope you had fun reading it. Resident Evil may be my fav game series of all time for it's consistent quality and fresh new mechanics. From it's subtle ambience of the first trilogy (incl 0 & CV) to it's 3rd person action gameplay of it's second trilogy, to the 1st person VR experience of it's 3d trilogy (I hope Resi 9 in in VR).
I just wonder what they'll do next for Resident Evil 10, 11 & 12. Maybe an open world with a levelling-up system like fallout/Dying Light.

oh, I can't wait for Resident Evil 1 re-remake. The ambience in VR of the spencer mansion would be amazing. It would be the best game of recent years. The experience would be perfect for VR.

Anyway I'm still going on one of my tangents again, so I'm gonna stop now cos I can go on forever talking about Resident Evil.
