I appreciate the perspective!
I don’t think RE6 is a bad game but I also don’t think it’s a good game. And it has nothing to do with the fact that it strayed away from series conventions. It’s just too focused on narrative and presentation at the expense of gameplay.
As for RE5, I consider it one of the best co-op games of that generation. It’s a bit dumb and not at all scary, but the action is excellent, particularly with a friend along for the ride.
