It all began in the early 2010s.
I had a friend who was all into 7th gen. He had bought an PS3, while I had... Well, a PS2. That friend loved the Resident Evil ambience, but he could never get into the original trilogy, since he thought it was very outdated. Once he got a Playstation 3, he kept telling me how amazing Resident Evil 5 was. He was all about it.
Once I got my hands on an amazing Geforce 9500GT with an impressive 512MB of VRAM, I could finally play Resident Evil 5... And... It did not go well.
Yes, the game was stunning visually, but the gameplay was very... odd. I hated how you needed to babysit Sheeva all the way while she takes stupid actions. And the game was absolutely not scary at all. I mean, why the heck does it never gets dark? The whole gameplay takes place on daylight, and it only starts to get tense when you reach the facility, and it is honestly way too late.
Yeah, it gave me a bad taste. So, even when Capcom showed that amazing trailer for Resident Evil 6 at... E3, I think? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I had very, very low expectations for the new chapter in the franchise.
It was early 2013 when I could get my hands on the PC version of Resident Evil 6, and... Man, I'm glad I did it!

The first thing I liked about it: The setting. Facing the infected at night in China feels much better than at the heat of midday. I know some people who dislike the graphics in this game, saying that it feels inferior to RE5. But I think it's more because of the lack of illumination, since most of the time in RE6 you will spend with very dark scenarios. I have no complains about it, it's a PS3/360 game after all. And I still like it. I remember the first time I played Leon's campaign. That beggining at the campus was already better than the entire Resident Evil 5 for me.
Is it scary? No. But neither was the previous game. The main difference here is that Resident Evil 6 is actually a great action game. I just love fighting the creatures. It feels really good to progress. And I don't know why, but in any action game I hate dying multiple times, but in this particular game, I just don't care. Everytime I fail, I gladly press the restart button and try again.
Of course, I do think RE6 has it's flaws. The plot is not very interesting at all. Some scenes feels kinda strange considering the previous games. It's like Capcom didn't knew how to handle the story after Raccoon City. But since they kinda did a great job fixing it with Resident Evil 7, I think the story of the sixth chapter is now passable.
Leon's campaign was amazing, Chris campaign was great, and Jake's campaing is very playable. Believe it or not, I didn't finished Ada's Story. Will do it now that I'm replaying the game for the... I don't know, maybe 6th time.
TL, DR: I think Resident Evil 6 is an incredible action game with a very pleasant gameplay and it should not be bashed just because it's not an horror game at all. RE5 was much weaker and it was well received.
