Forums - Sales Discussion - Toyo Securities estimates Final Fantasy 16 has sold 3.5 million

I was a huge FF fan in the past, I even enjoyed FF13 very much. But I don't know, I watched a bunch of trailers and FF16 looked somewhat dull and boring. I have no urge whatsoever to get this game. Maybe when I see it on sale for 10 bucks or something. But even then I would have to think about it, lol.

Have you played VII Rebirth?

It's the most Avergae game that has ever existed, I can't think of anything else in the world as mid as this game. FF15 was flawed, felt unfinished at launch and it was still way better than this game. If it wasn't for a few small things that are great I'd say the game is so average that it is worse than a bad game, if characters like Cid and the Story beats and boss battles HDR wasn't so impressive I'd have shot myself playing this game. I'd rather play something aggressively bad and make fun of it that this mind numbingly bland.

Deserves to fail tbh, they went so far in the wrong direction and made the world's first single player MMO game.

A shit game gets shit sales, go figure.

I spoke to a lot of none fans and for them it just wasn't on their radar because its the 16 entries into a series that they're out of the loop with. As somone who really enjoyed 16 despite its flaws and saw it as a return to form in many ways, I recommended it to as many people as I could but no one would budge lol.

I think people really understate the importance of the franchise finding new fans. Its not enough that you rely on the 30+ demographic to keep buying your games because many will gradually just loose investment, loose interest in gaming etc

As far as the core fan base I think you legit have almost 2 decades worth of misfires and inconsistency. A lot of once core fans, just don't value the franchise like they used to and seeing FFXVI in action one friend immediately just said "They're still trying to make it an action game"....

Its actually quite a shame that people wont give it a chance.

I only played the demo on PS5 (which I was really impressed with) but I bought the Steam version a few weeks ago when it was on sale. Playing through FFVII Remake Intergrade right now but I'm planning to play XVI Complete on PC as well.

I've been a fan of Final Fantasy since the late 90s when I got into the series and played every single mainline entry minus the MMOs but have to say the change from going to turn based to action got my interest as I prefer action RPGs more nowadays than turn based.

I think FF XVI is great but yikes.
Square Enix needs to course correct. It's clear that the budget is probably too high, and the gameplay is not what people want.
Also, it's time to drop the timed exclusive deal with PlayStation and go day and date with PC as well as some Nintendo and Xbox versions when relevant.
And Final Fantasy VII Part 3 should be day and date on PC and possibly Xbox as well.
How much money could Sony give Square relative to these underwhelming sales figures? Is it worth it?

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

the thing is like 80-90% of the market share for final fantasy is probably on Playstation....
Also exclusives usually get a small boost, from more awareness about the game, marketing and such.

A potential trade off, by going multiplat could be some loss on Playstation side,
that and the "money hat" gift from sony, might mean going multiplat day and date, isn't worth it for them.
ontop of the extra costs with porting the games.

"is it worth it" ?

probably...I doubt xbox user, would make much of a difference here (like a drop in a bucket).
A bad game just does poorly everywhere.

It might be worth a small bit to go day and date on pc though. Potentially enough to not go exclusive with playstation.
Then theres the risk of it getting cracked early, and people playing it that way (and the loss of sales potential from such).
However xbox is a non factor in this (imo).

Only SE know, end of the day.

What about the M rating? Why did they suddenly make this game more mature. Could be a turn off to younger audiences.

This is curious because overall XVI has received positive reception. During XV release window folks tried to convince it was like the worst game ever released

In reality it was a fairly well received game with good legs,

XVI a good game. Not stellar but good, it didn't deserve to tank like that. But I think it just looks a bit generic, aside from the brand name there is nothing to put special attention to it. It doesn't look unique in neither gameplay, presentation or technical elements

My main complaint is that you couldn’t play as Jill. She was a great character, and I think the game would’ve been better if it had focused on both Clive and Jill.

Jill And Cid should both be playable characters
