Forums - Nintendo - Best smaller/less prestigious Nintendo franchise

When it comes to Nintendo, the conversation is often dominated by their most beloved and prestigious IPs, from those that are wildly popular like Pokémon, to those that are considered among the best of all time critically like Metroid, to those that do both like Mario and Zelda.

If we set these aside for a moment, and focus on those that get somewhat less attention, which do you think is the best smaller or less prestigious IP in Nintendo's catalogue, and what makes it the best in your opinion?

I would say Chibi-Robo, but I've only played the first and only a tiny bit of Park Patrol.
WarioWare is very fun, so I think I'll say that. It's not a popular IP, but it's not on life support. It exists to Nintendo and makes them money.
Mega Microgames and Touched are a blast. I loved the kookiness, and I enjoyed DIY and Get It Together quite a bit as well. Gold really should get a Switch port or remake; I'd like to play it but it's around $40 and my 3DS is in rough shape.

I really like WarioWare.

Famicom Detective Club.

The second game, for the SNES, is an amazing Visual Novel, one of my favorites.

The "light gun" games on Wii. Deadspace and Resident Evil. They were sooooo good. Dead Space Extraction and Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles. Just a blast to play.

Nothing really scratches that itch that Star Fox does for me. Obviously, Star Fox 64 is the best one, but I had a lot of fun with most Star Fox games. I really hope they'll revisit the franchise and not mess up the most basic and important part (controls) again like they did last time...

On a similar note, I don't think I ever really get that sense of speed from other games that F-Zero gives me. The only one even remotely comparable is Sonic, but they're totally different genres so it's still wildly different. With F-Zero tracks being added to Mario Kart, it seems like a new F-Zero is more distant than ever, but given how much time I sank in to F-Zero GX I'm still hoping we'll get a return that's on par with it some day.

If it counts, Star Fox.

Not because of it having great games, really, it only has one. But I love the setting, the characters, the whole vibe, and I think it's the IP with the most potential to become something truly amazing. Sadly, that'll never happen.

Advance Wars

Also older Fire Emblem titles before Awakening really grew the franchise to new levels.
