Sony over shipped the PS5 in Q4 2023/2024. Which is why the gap is now particularly big. However I expect the gap between PS5 and PS4 to grow for the rest of PS5 remaining years on the market.

you're forgetting that there's still GTA 6 and several big games to come out in 2025 and 2026. Santa Monica games, Naught Dog, Wolverine, Monster Hunter and other games will help boost PS5 sales

I think it will depend on the reception of the PS5 Pro. The PS4 Pro gave a nice little bump at the time. As far as the 'internet' goes, enthusiasm for a PS5 Pro model seems to be a little soft. Perhaps that's wrong and it can do good numbers.

I'm still content with last gen for PS and Xbox. There is nothing truly screaming for me to upgrade, and it seems others feel the same.

Yup, same here. I must admit Astrobot could make me upgrade, but only with some kind of discount on the PS5. EUR550 is a bit much to invest, simply because I would not like losing out on playing 1 game.

I have serious doubt about all of those aside from GTA VI. Helldivers 2 is one of the most successful games ever to release on Playstation consoles and it barely moved the needle, nor did FFVII Rebirth.

The big 1st party games probably don't hit before 2026, since I doubt they want to release them anywhere near GTAVI and I don't see PlayStation announcing their big games only 6 months in advance.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I dont have much faith in the PS5 Pro increasing sales overall much if we dont find out more about whats going on with so many of the 1st party studios. We're all expecting news from Naughty Dog, Bend, etc, that have not only not released an original game on PS5, but they haven't even announced anything. People who bought for Horizon or Spider Man have already bought in.

GTA6 will of course help, though. But announcing the PS5 Pro without reasons why we should buy one (besides slight improvement on already existing games) is not going to move the needle. At most people will trade in their current systems for Pro's, but those sales wont cascade down, because there's still no reason for many people to buy one.

I'm hoping for an announcement from some of the single player devs on games coming when they do the Pro announcement. The dream (and something I think that would be effective) is a Bloodbourne remaster that runs at 60fps/4k only on the Pro. Thats probably a pipe dream though.

"Sony's Game & Network Services Segment for the quarter ending June 30, 2024, reported revenue increased 93.0 billion yen ($0.63 billion) year-over-year to 864.9 billion yen ($5.90 billion), while operating income increased 16.0 billion yen ($0.11 billion) to 65.2 billion yen ($0.44 billion)."

Was the PS Plus price hike worth it Sony? Less hardware and Software but the network segment saw an increase! There is a give and pull in these kind of situations.

I'm probably letting my PS Plus expire for the first time unless there is some kind of big deal here in my region, so if many people do the same (no idea) it will can actually end up being bad all around.

There is a reason Sony hasn't released PS Plus subscriber numbers, and it is not because the numbers are increasing.

So, PS4 is now officially ahead of PS5?

Yep, mostly due to slowing sales in Europe.

Omg that is terrible. 2.4 only. It’s not too much over switch. Was not expecting a number that low.

I am wondering if 100M is feasible if this continues.

I dont know what reason people have to be excited about the PS5 right now. I expect it to continue to drop hard. They have...2(?) games announced from internal studios (Concord/Astro). It feels very much like we are in the Xbox One/Series drought that MS still hasn't been able to pull out of. They seem to just be banking on 3rd party (mainly GTA, I assume) to carry them. More than 5 years into its lifecycle and they haven't even announced games from many of their biggest studios. It's baffling to me.

The odd thing is that this is working .. for now ..

4 years into the generation and PS5 is selling a lot more than the PS3 (which gen was the peak for many and 2nd place for the others) and selling almost on par with the PS4 (which gen was 2nd best for many, and the best for the other) and those 2 gens were maybe the peak generations in terms of games, and Sony and Microsoft doing way better than they are now. We had many more games than now, we were at way cheaper prices by that point, and there were many more new things for a console gen, and many more reasons in general than there is now, and yet even the XBSX is selling more than it should be for a console without games, with no true exclusives and with no reason to have, but the PS5 is the pinnacle of console selling best with no games, no nothing and it still continue to do good, and with the PS5 Pro and GTA 6 the sales I see will only continue to be good or even better if those 2 things give it a boost. It's scandal and anomaly. How did this gen will do close to last 2 gen numbers combined without anything. This is maybe the power of the mainstream. The not so hardcore games like most of us here. The most of the mainstream people buy new phones when they come out. It's the same here. I have colleagues and friends who are not so into gaming, but buys the latest and the newest one console, just because they want to play something on the best hardware, or on the newest, no matter that they want it for only 1 or 2 games. They think by default they have to get the newest one to be able to play games such as GTA V, or let's say God of war or Spiderman or even the call of duties. I am not even sure that all of those sales comes from that type of people that are mainstream and do not go deep into those things and what they really need. But this generation is just doing good for no reason...
