Just seems weird to call it niche here if nobody on here was actually saying that. Starting around early 2010s, superheroes became an absolutely massive craze across pop culture with the likes of the MCU. This benefitted Spiderman greatly as both a popular superhero IP and a Marvel property. I wasn't downplaying its success, just saying it's not really surprising, just like it wasn't surprising that Mario Wonder or Tears of the Kingdom were highly successful. |
I agree with you on spider man 2 but not spiderman 2018 there was no history on spiderman gam even coming close to even 10 million not even 5 million. It's like botw while people expected success most did not think it would be a massive success. |
spiderman the movie and spiderman the movie 2 both almost certainly exceed 5 million units,
data is a pain to find, but
spiderman 1 sold over 2.81 million units on only PS2 and only in the US and UK, it sold at least another 500 k in the US on both the xbox and gamecube as both hit their budget hits range, so Spiderman Movie one and another 750k on the gba plus a pc release under 5 million for spiderman 1 is nearly impossible
Considering Spiderman 1 and 2 consoles only brought in 300 million in the us alone, by 2007 and both had a budget release the floor for US sales in 3 million each, and considering it seems at least 100 million was in the budget range both probably were pushing 4.5 million in the US alone,
both movie games were platinum hits on PS2 in the EU, Uk and Australia,
considering game sold way fewer copies then, spiderman was a huge hit,
spiderman has always been super mainstream, if Activision had continued to improve their spiderman games instead of going to cheap cash-ins they'd have had a potential 20 million seller, there is a reason there are like 40 spiderman games, and it isn't because it has ever been niche.
