Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo France CY 2023: NSW HW 855K, 7.81M LTD, Zelda TotK No.1 with 968K at retail

Final Fantasy 16 is really a disappointment commercially. Down ~100k from the previous mainline game, despite being available for nearly 6 months more on the market.

No PS5 in sight.

The PS5 was No.1 in France for the 2023 year.

Also, from the article:

Niche-Man 2 physical sales are close to 300k

Final Fantasy XVI sales are between 100 and 150k, physical only.

Great sales for Niche Man.

Do we have data for PS5 sales?

No. Probably more than one million for the year but no numbers yet.

I'm glady surprise about Final Fantasy XVI's sales since it's only physical in these numbers.

Can't wait to do it again with the DLCs on PC when it comes out.

Niche man 1 sold  around 346k physical units back in 2018 but it seems that digital sales were only about 10%. There are rumours that Niche man 2 has a digital rate of around 25%, as another comparison, GOW 2018 sold 302k physical units in 2018.

As for the PS5 numbers, sadly there are no official numbers or leaks.

Spiderman has done incredibly well, but I think almost all of us expected that just because it's a massive brand and had a big push behind it.

People really don't like to credit Sony for Niche man's success huh.

Activision made Niche man games until 2014 and they barely sold over 3 million per game.

Sony and insomniac's Niche Man PS4 sold over 23 million units and counting.

So yeah, it being a massive brand has little to do with its success.

By that logic, Avengers should have been a massive success as it is a Much Bigger brand than Niche Man.

Anyway, To each their own.

Yea many people thought it wasn't gonna massive success because insomniac never made a big hit and spider man was never a huge seller on any system.

Pretty huge discrepancies between the two lists, especially on older consoles.

Master System: 1.6M vs 970k

NES: 2.4M vs 1.788M

Switch: 7.81M vs 7.945M

Also, Xbox S/X still over 200k behind Wii U sales? Even though France was one of the best countries for the Wii U, that's still a pretty bad showing for the Microsoft console.

The 1.6m figures comes from estimates by Screen Digest magazine from March 1995. They estimated the active installbase of the mastersystem in france in 1993 was 1.6m. So that would suggest even higher sales than 1.6m unless they were estimating 100% of units sold were active in that year.

Another article I found from an old magazine says 600,000 Master Systems were sold in France in 1991 alone (it apparently got a price cut this year) so I would say the 1.6m figure is very likely the closer figures than 970k.

Master System 970.000 LTD is from Florent Gorges.

1988 : 10.000
1989 : 29.000
1990 : 140.000
1991 : 375.000
1992 : 235.000
1993 : 181.000

Same for NES

1988 : 33.000
1989 : 89.000
1990 : 327.000
1991 : 697.000
1992 : 436.000
1993 : 206.000
