If you mean these 2022 threads... most of us expected raw performance in the ballpark of a base PS4 + DLSS benefits:

The lowest expectation I've seen was Xbox One (S) performance + DLSS benefits.

But you seem to be the only one who expected 12 GB RAM, so kudos to you.
Most others expected either 8 GB or 16 GB RAM.

This isn't the thread I was referencing, it's possible that the thread is maybe one year or six months older.

Series S is currently trash, but it may be getting FSR4 support soon. Won't be as efficient on it or Series X as on RDNA3, let alone RDNA4, but it could make an appreciable difference.

PS5 probably won't get anything like this, which is weird because Sony invested in and prioritised advanced upscaling with both PS4 Pro and PS5 Pro. How is it that Series S supports INT8 instructions and PS5 doesn't? I've been championing the PS5 as the better designed console of the generation, but FSR4 will turn the tables. Yeah I guess some would say "it's too late" but is it? Most 3rd party games will still support Series S and X for another 10 years, and no one is buying a $1000 next gen console.

The PS5 and Xbox have different RNDA2 implementations. Xbox's implementation is closer to the standard design. Sony took things like INT8 processing out of the PS5 GPU and used the die space for other things. Those customizations benefitted Sony over MS until now. But now it's too late for it really matter. It shows how incompetent Xbox was though. Sony has been stepping on every rake they can this generation but Xbox is in a vegetative coma so they couldn't take advantage. Typically when you make countless mistakes as a console maker, your competition pounces on them to gain marketshare.

Microsoft did a number of things better than Sony in the first half of the gen, but they screwed up the more important stuff. No exclusives (PC day and date), disappointing 1st party quality/output etc. And it got worse in the 2nd half when they started supporting Playstation and increasing their prices to absurd levels.

In the context of PS4 Pro and later Project Amethyst (both of which had a particular focus on upscaling), imo the only logical explanation for Sony deciding against including INT8 processing is increasing the appeal of the eventual PS5 Pro.

In hindsight, going for an ultra fast SSD instead of INT8 was a bad move. How many more dollars would INT8 processing add to manufacturing costs? Probably less than their SSD being twice the speed of Series X/S. They definitely had the Pro in mind from the start, and having no INT8 in the original model makes the Pro more appealing.

Even if it does nothing to the Xbox brand, it's cool that all Xbox Series users will enjoy the benefits of FSR4 (even if it's the least efficient version) for many years to come.

007 First Light is still due out in the next month and will apparently be playable at Gamescom, I'm looking forward to seeing how that holds up on Switch 2.

Somehow, Bond games just feel "right" to me on Nintendo consoles after Goldeneye.

Series S was only 30fps IIRC but seemed to hold up fairly well visually, sans some textures which could be a little improved on S2 due to it having more RAM.

Looking back, it's a forgettable experience for the most part. Almost amateurish made.  I was shocked to be honest

I've been really happy with Switch 2's performance. I just beat RE9 and have now beaten all of the 3 modern RE games on Switch 2. They looked and ran great to my eyes. I beat Indiana Jones earlier this year and looked wonderful. I've started Oblivion Remastered and it looks quite nice - though I have noticed the occasional slowdown in the open world a bit more than in other games. I've been playing Grid Legends, which looks suitibly current-gen for a racing game. I'm in the middle of Final Fantasy 7 Remake 1, which looks great. I'm so glad I waited to play Hogwarts Legacy until it got a Switch 2 version. I loved playing Galaxy in 4k and playing Tears of the Kingdom and Prime 4 with not only much higher resolutions but much-improved textures and 60fps in Zelda's case. Mario Kart World and Fast Fusion are huge leaps over the Switch 1 games. Donkey Kong and the big Pokemon spinoff not being a clear generational leap hasn't bothered me when there's been so much eye-candy elsewhere.

Same here. Switch 2 has honestly exceeded my expectations. I picked Xenoblade 2 back up after the Switch 2 upgrade, and it was a great experience. Resident Evil looks and plays great, as do FF7R and P3R.  Cyberpunk ran better on Switch 2 than on Steam Deck. Street Fighter 6 and VF5 REVO are great experiences.

So apparently now Madden 27, NBA2k27 and COD MW4 will all be 60fps for Switch 2.

I'm so impressed and truly shows how small the gap has become and reaching the point of diminishing returns.

The Switch 1 wasnt at all this close to the PS4, all the sports games ran at 30fps and pretty much any other big AAA port from PS4 would drop from 60 to 30 on Switch 1and tbh a good amount of cases even the resolution and texture differences would take a big hit in those ports.
With Switch 2 ports now getting 60fps is common with even bigger games you wouldn't expect lile COD of RE9, while also feeling like the exact same game with all the same textures and maybe some slight resolution differences. Truly impresses me how the Switch 2 now closely resembles those other consoles this much now.

Realistically with Switch 1 ports you had to settle with quiet a bit of drawbacks, I can't say the same with Switch 2 ports where its pretty much close to PS5 version while also having ability to play on the go. Now you can argue Switch 2 owners might not need a PS5.

Truly impressed, however unfortunately amongst the casual gaming crowd they don't really see the Switch 2 as that big 3rd party game console yet thanks to that stigma Nintendo has built for around 30 years now. I see alot of people still doubting COD would be able to run on it and don't know alot of these big 3rd party games are on Switch 2 as well, so It might take a while before people realize it. But definitely impressed with alot of these ports.

Yeah we've certainly come a long way since Switch 2 in terms of the quality of third party ports from the current gen twins. I played and still enjoyed a lot of PS4 ports to Switch 1, but PS5 ports to Switch 2 are on another level.

Switch 2 version will have 120hz output, so maybe a 40fps mode? however I'll put some Switch 2 version images below:

When it comes to the biggest 3rd party franchises. Switch 2 pretty much has everything now, to the broad consumer base that's pretty much all they need to be completely satisfied and feel like it has everything.

The most popular 3rd party franchises right now:

-COD, Switch 2 now getting all new ones day in with the others

-GTA, really the only one sort of missing on Switch 2, all we have is GTA trilogy but no word on GTA 5 OR 6

-Fifa/FC- Switch 2 getting all the same games same day as others

-Madden- Same games and day as others

-Minecraft- Switch 2 is arguably the preferred platform for this game

-Assassin's Creed- Got all the current gen ones

-Resident Evil- Got the current gen ones

-Final Fantasy- Getting all the new ones

Then there's obviously the other free to play games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Rocket League, ect...

-Switch 2 already had Red Dead 1 & heavily rumored to get Red Dead 2 eventually

Yea there are certainly stuff missing on Switch 2, but generally speaking they are more niche stuff most casual consumers don't pay much attention to, really the only really popular thing missing on Switch 2 is GTA 5 & 6, but hopefully eventually it arrives

It's missing the big Chinese games. Wukong, Zhong Kui, Mihoyo's games, Wuthering Waves, Where Winds Meet, Phantom Blade etc. But many of them should come as some even support mobile phones. Not sure what's taking them so long to support Nintendo's platforms including the Switch 1 for light games like Genshin Impact.

Porting will only become a challenge when games target 30/40 fps on PS5 as the ceiling, or require more RAM as the minimum.

On the western/japanese side, it's missing GTA5/6, RDR2, the Witcher 4, Baldur's Gate 3, Expedition 33, Arc Raiders, Forza Horizon 5/6, Persona 6, Tekken 8, Palworld, and probably others, but it should get most of them eventually.
