I am keen to see how Witcher 3 shapes up on Switch 2; hopefully CD Projekt Red will go the extra mile and roll out some of the need gen upgrades where feasible instead of just porting the PS4 version.

I think that's pretty much given - TW3 Next Gen upgrade is not really that demanding compared to modern titles, unless you crank up RT.

Good point, plus their port of Cyberpunk was a lot better than the last gen versions and remains of one the better third party conversions on the platform.

It's missing the big Chinese games. Wukong, Zhong Kui, Mihoyo's games, Wuthering Waves, Where Winds Meet, Phantom Blade etc. But many of them should come as some even support mobile phones. Not sure what's taking them so long to support Nintendo's platforms including the Switch 1 for light games like Genshin Impact.

Porting will only become a challenge when games target 30/40 fps on PS5 as the ceiling, or require more RAM as the minimum.

On the western/japanese side, it's missing GTA5/6, RDR2, the Witcher 4, Baldur's Gate 3, Expedition 33, Arc Raiders, Forza Horizon 5/6, Persona 6, Tekken 8, Palworld, and probably others, but it should get most of them eventually.

I think the big hurdle will actually be long term financial interest of these ports being sustained or at least in a timey manner. Switch 2 ports are feasible for pretty much every game without sacrificing too much of it's core character, but many games are still taking dedicated resources outside of the core PS5/PC development environment to bring them over. Right now we're seeing a very big wave of support, but some of that may be clawed back if S2 software sales doesn't match the amount of effort put into making the ports. We're seeing some great sales in the likes of Resident Evil but there are lots of titles we haven't really got a strong picture of how they've done.

Late ports actually may be more financially rewarding for some titles than day and date, because late ports tend to give PS5/PC sales a second wind. Similar to what you might expect from DLC, so the benefit of S2 ports goes beyond the S2 sales alone.

Regarding the orginal topic of the thread my main concern for S2 was that the minute RT and Virtual Geometry came into the mix that there would not be enough head room to get those features working on S2 versions but it seems that the hardware is quite efficient at RT and engines are making great strides to become more efficient with lighter weight versions of these tools aanyway.

Lastly I underestimated the RAM advantage over Series S. My original statement on the Switch 2 is that it would be somewhere between a PS4 and Series S, but closer to the PS4. It depends what you prioritise in terms of graphic features versus performance but taking into account SSD speed/texture loading etc and general playability I think its safe to say it's closer to Series S than PS4. So it bested my expectations. Although  some part of that is down to Series S getting pretty poor ports

Dragon's Dogma II seems to be holding up remarkably well for a game so heavy:
