Forums - Sony Discussion - HOT: "Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut" for PS5/PS4 in August!!

What baffles me is that people continue to complain about companies charging money for optional features. You bought a game for PS4, it's complete and uses all features of the PS4. Why would that entitle you to a free upgrade to a different system with extra newly added features?

Very easy to explain. Features are optional but desirable, desired but not at the value that they're being offered, a value much higher than others have set in the industry. Playstation does not exist in a vacuum and neither do people's expectations. When something does not meet people's expectations they complain, both as a vent but also in hope it moves the needle next time round. That's really it.

When something you buy doesn't meet expectations (like CP2077) I understand the complaints. Yet when an offer isn't good enough, just pass up on it. It's like going to a store and screaming they're anti-consumerist because not everything is 90% off like some things in other stores. This race to the bottom where everything must be free is not going to end nicely.

It's just puzzling that season passes get lauded, yet a small one time fee for added features is anti consumer.

Anyway, today it's time to be outraged about no 4K Switch. Everyone else has 4K, get the pitchforks out!

I know a lot of people wont agree with my post here, however I am very confused with this situation.
I am okay with the DLC content being sold separately which makes sense. What baffles me the most is the extra $10 fee to pay for a game to work on the PS5 especially in a world of today where their direct console competitor Xbox offers free upgrades and the PC market been offering this for decades.

Imagine every time their is a PC leap in graphics, you have to pay an additional fee to play a game using your latest PC hardware. Controller features and higher resolution and fps is not something customers should be paying extra for. Xbox allows you to play games with any XB1 or XSX controller (Not charging you an extra dollar to use the share button) or with PC gaming allowing players to use any controllers they like with no extra costs.

People agreeing with this business practice are the reasons these companies push these practices. Claiming a game is worth the extra money because its good is not a valid reason. Good is always subjective, some people don't see GOT in the same light as those praising it and yet they now have to put up with the business practices because people just don't care about how they are being treated.

If i were the fan base, id be telling people to buy the PS4 version and simply ignore the PS5 option to prove a point that gamers don't want to be milked. If they allow this to be successful then expect this to happen more and more often with PS4 and PS5 upgrades, games like TLOU2 and GOW will be asking for similar treatment.

You don't have to pay extra to play the game on PS5, enough with the fud.

The $10 fee is for haptic feedback, 3D audio and optimizations to run at 4K 60. Stuff that required work to implement. You can play it in BC mode for free (with unlocked frame rate maybe I don't know)

XBox doesn't have a new controller, no extra work and you can use the old controller. (Btw you can't use a DS4 with FH4, try it. MS doesn't allow players to use any controller they want)

Why would those people want to play the game on ps5 again then? If it's so good they want to play it again, why not give the developers a little extra to enjoy it again with added features.

What is the distinction?
Pay extra for DLC (requires work) ok.
Pay extra for new game play features (requires work) bad?

If you don't think haptic feedback and 3D audio are worth the cost, then simply play it in BC mode. And if too few people don't want to pay for the new features, next time Sony won't bother adding new features, simple.

The $20 DLC is fine, it's the $10 fee to upgrade your game that's the issue. Like if other companies can offer free upgrades and even Sony have done this with Spider-Man and Sackboy, then why can't they do it to this?
What baffles me is if you own the game you should be able to get the next generation version for free. Like you already paid your "fee" buy buying the next generation system. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, etc are apart of the system's features and yet it's being locked away from you until you pay more money. That's like if on PC you buy a new GPU or any PC part, or getting a new PC then paying to upgrade your games to take advantage of your new hardware. Also $70 sucks, if these companies try this on PC they would see backlash and loss of sales.

Why? In what industry is that a standard? I paid for movies on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Super-bit, Blu-ray, director's cuts. Why do they keep charging me since already paid my "fee' in the 80s. Why do I need to pay Netflix extra to see the same stuff in 4K instead of 1080p.

Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, etc don't simply work on their own. FH4 doesn't work with a DS4 either, I had to buy a 360 controller, outrage! Why doesn't every game on PC support VR automatically when you by a headset!

I paid CAD 160 for FS2020 ($120) for a beta version basically, so that $70 price point is pretty generous in comparison. It sold pretty well.

If you bought the PS5 then by default you should have those features unlocked. It's a console feature not a game feature. They are locking a console feature behind a $10 paywall when you already bought the console. If a game has DualSense features and I buy that game on PS4 and play it on PS5 then yeah we should get those features for free since we can play the game on the PS5. We already paid our upgrade "fee" to have PS5 features in the games we buy, so why do we have to pay again to unlock those features when we already bought the Goddamn console?

The PS4 version works on the PS5 through backward compatibility. In fact it was already upgraded to 4k 60fps earlier this year. The ps5 version will just have a few extra like lip sync, controller's features and slightly improved graphics. I don't mind paying $10 for each upgrade considering I had to pay $40-$60 for remastered games last few gens

Sony doesn't want people to buy GOT for $30 or less on PS4 then claim a free PS5 upgrade version.

Haptic feedback is on ps4? You're confusing standard rumble with dual sense feedback and resistive triggers. It's like expecting analog movement to automatically work on a ps1 game made before the dual shock was released.

The new features were added later, why would the ps4 version get them for free?
Why would you buy the ps4 version to play on ps5?
That's like buying the blu-ray version, then complain you don't get the 4K blu-ray version with it for free. Even though you bought a goddamn 4K blu-ray player.

It's really simple, Sony doesn't want you to buy the (cheaper) ps4 version in a bargain bin somewhere or second hand (digital or physical) and get a full ps5 version for free out of it. Same reason why games on ps3 got an online pass when online play was still free. First owner gets online benefits, second has to pay for them. People complained, so now we all got to pay continuously to play online. So you can complain, but the only effect it might have is no more BC at all since it just leads to more dissatisfaction and just full price remasters like Nintendo atm.

Perception is key. All of thse underlined features are things that games simply get patched in, at no additional cost all the time.

Also, paying money to fully utilise your controller features is harsh too.

Looks poor next to other companies with less than stellar reputautions like EA and Ubisoft who have offered upgrades to games for free.

Sony already released a free "EA/Ubisoft tier" upgrade for Ghost of Tsushima (same with Days Gone), patched a whole gameplay mechanic (lock on), and added a chunky multiplayer mode, all of which free of charge. This is far beyond what most publishers do. I'm not a fan of a lot of the things Sony is doing but we gotta tone down the rhetoric. If you think lipsync, DualSense utilization, 3D audio, etc don't justify the mild price increase, then avoid upgrading and stick to the generous enhancements and additions already applied. They've done more than enough proconsumer moves with GoT of all games for us to act so pissy.
