Don't worry it's the classic turn based style it's always been.

Update: Looks like Nintendo Everything are correcting themselves confirming there will be online. Lastly, we have one more report on online usage. There unfortunately was a high degree of confusion here to due conflicted reports coming out of last night’s event in Tokyo, particular from the Q&A session. But after speaking with Masuda, IGN reports that battling and trading online are both available online and locally. Online ranked battles will not be available, however. There are also no plans to use Nintendo Switch Online. GameSpot is reporting similar information, so we’re hoping that this has been settled once and for all.

That's good to know, they originally reported that online battles were present and then backtracked, hopefully this time it's finally confirmed. Still not for me since I don't like the changes, but it doesn't seem like a terrible idea anymore.
Nintendo have lost the plot.
This is a handheld game, but on a console. Looks like they aren't going to make a proper console Pokemon. Instead it's going to be handheld games that release on the Switch.

That's a relief. Do we know how frequent trainer battles will be?
Signature goes here!

Not yet, but at least as many as in the originals obviously. But they'll probably have some sort of new battle facility so you have access to endless CPU battles. They might also keep the Vs Seeker from Fire Red and Leaf Green so you can re-challenge trainers with stronger Pokemon. Plus there is also online.

An extremely interesting, but highly difficult question. This question probably deserves it's own prediction thread with proper shaming of all the wrong answers in either direction later this year.
As it isn't a core game, it has to be kinda be counted like a new IP. With taking Gen 1 landscape and Pokemon, it also is kinda a remake. Also it is a new IP that is catering partly to the Pokemon Go hype. This all in combinations make prediction very difficult. I think it can be as low as three million or as high as twenty (obviously over the course of multiple years). The last one even throws another hurdle: the usage of gen1 suggests sequels for this series. But how fast will they come? For predictions sake I pick 10M as my number.

2019
I feel completely uninterested. I was actually looking forward to a gen 1 remake but not with the pokemon go integration boo boo. More interested in the 2019 game.

Their is nothing that proves that the 2019 game will have another direction.
Why make this one so different?

What thats what defines console Pokemon game compared to handheld Pokemon game? For instance this games offers local multiplayer play on one unit, past handheld games didnt offer that.
Also they said core Pokemon game is coming next year.
