Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft: Wii U Owners Don’t Buy Assassin’s Creed; More Interested in Just Dance

You really are being inconsistent for your 2D platformer argument. DK Returns sold 6mil. NSMB sold 20+ mil on DS and Wii. So your relative logic is inconsistent really. Sure 170k is low for AC, but 360k IS low for Rayman. Back in the PS days it sold 3mil per VGChartz.

Your whole idea doesn't make any sense to me. If ZombiU was able to sell 700k, then there is money to be made.

The discounted price came much later, ZombiU sold well since the beginning it just wasn't profitable. There is a world of a difference between the two.

Whether Ubi and other developers are able to capitalize on that potential really is the question.

The obvious answer is No.

For the record they can sell their games to whoever they want to. They will just hear me disagree with them when they say bullshit like what's in OP.

DK is another top selling IP. Ubisoft certainly did not have those kind of sales expectations for Rayman. The days of Rayman selling millions of units are over. Sonic also struggles to do the same.

We don't know the budget of ZombiU but Ubisoft said it failed. 700k generally isn't enough to make a AAA game profitable. If it was, THQ would probably be around.

The Wii U audience came to that console for Nintendo games. Not another platform to play CoD and Assassin's Creed.

If the Wii U simply did a better job at moving core software, support would continue. 3rd parties have already taken risks on Wii U, the console got some cool games because of those risks, but support ultimately failed.

Wii U owners mostly buy Nintendo or Nintendo-like games. Most of us have another device to game on and the ports on that machine are almost guaranteed to be better than the Wii U version.

/end thread.

Might be a different demographic spread on Nintendo if something like God Of War or Halo was a Nintendo IP ... that would pave the way for third parties but without that ...

Even if the nintendo wii u got a new asscesins creed it would probably be rouge, which would be extremly hummilating.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

Nintendo fans aren't your usual gamer, so don't try to cater to them with the usual 3rd party line up. It's sad to see when Nintendo fans are bitching on 3rd parties never supporting Nintendo consoles, but they do jack shit to support 3rd parties that DO exist

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Yeah I agree. Nintendo do nothing to foster the COD/AC audience on their system. It's a shame because I really like shooters and I love the pro controller. Nintendo clearly doesn't 'get' shooters though. They designed the gamepad with shooters in mind. Using the gyro....yeah.....see how long you last in competitive multiplayer using that crap. I'm looking forward to Splatoon, but I'm sure I'll be using dual analogues like everyone else on the planet.

How is Shovel Knight a good example against the point the CEO is making? The game is basically one big love letter to the great games of the NES era, especially Megaman, if there was any group of people this game just had to appeal to then it was the oldschool Nintendo fans, do you expect every third party developer to tailor their games specifically to Nintendo fans tastes?

What he says is right, Nintendo customers haven't bought the last AC games. Nintendo customers haven't bought many M rated games overall, especially third party multiplats. Nintendo customers have on the other hand bought a lot of Just Dance, though I see that declining sharply over the next years. So what of what he said is bothering you here?

Everything about it bothers me, it makes no business sense. Rayman did not sell well either I don't hear him saying that non-"mature" games sell badly on the U.

The bottom line is that games can sell well on the U if you play your cards right. Let's just say Ubi failed badly at making money on the U, and Just Dance I doubt will help them any more.

You make stupid decisions, you pay the price. At 700k sales for ZombiU, there is money to be made. Sure they were unprofitable for Zombi U, but it doesn't negate the fact that 700k is a lot of sales for a game. The highly acclaimed Demon's Soul sold 1.5m. It's not GTA sales but it's still decent. If the budget were better managed and marketing was more strategic, it's no stretch of the imagination that a game selling 700k on the U with last gen graphics could be profitable.

Shovel Knight is a great example because that indie dev is happy with their results on the U and are making money. Sure it's on a smaller scale but the lessons are equally applicable. Grow the budget a little and it's basically the same equation.

Yves Guillemot on Zombie U and Rayman Legends -

"Yves Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of Ubisoft, is typically one of the biggest proponents of new systems, but betting big on the Wii U didn't work out well for the company. ZombiU, one of the most popular launch titles for the system with players, was not profitable, he says. Not even close. As such, he says, there are no plans (or even desire) for a sequel.

It was, in fact, because of that game's performance that Ubisoft decided to make Rayman Legends a multiplatform game.

For EA, at least, it's the system's lack of a rich multiplayer environment that's one of the big concerns - especially for sports titles. (That's part of the reason Madden won't appear on the system this year.)

"The lack of online engagement that we see on Wii U [is troubling]," says Moore. "It's so integral to what we do. They're so small it's hardly worth running the servers. It seems like a box that's out of sync with the future of EA - which is one that gives a real social feel to our games. The Wii U feels like an offline experience right now."

For one thing Zombie U was a launch title. Secondly, it was heavily bundled with Wii U (Deluxe) systems. Going by sales of earlier games, it makes very little sense in investing in exclusive content on a platform that has yet to provide a valid reason to do so.

As for Zombie U. It was marketed and bundled and it not even close to profitable. With the sales of that and performance (all round) for third party software on Wii U and Nintendo consoles its quite easy to see why they are Ubi are wary of the platform. They tried. Which is more that can be said about other publishers.

They did try, you're right. And I never said ZombiU was profitable. I just said that 700k was decent and showed promise for profit had the budget and marketing been managed differently.

About EA, I find the no online reason to be horrible. Watch Smash sell millions and look at MK8's flourishing online community. EA sucked at making games on Nintendo consoles for the longest time I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

You can only do so much. They released AC III, AC IV Splinter Cell and Zombi U on the Wii U.. each one managing to underperform (the first two, especially) and fail to meet sales expectations. If Wii U owners aren't interested in those types of games, there isn't much Ubisoft can do about it.

As for EA bit, I didn't actually mean to include that part. It was added on with the quote.. But yeah, with online focus being more important to video games nowadays days, it should be inperitive (as a platform holder) to have a strong online infrastructure in place. Wii U is an 8th gen console but in many ways its still lagging behind its competitors on last gen consoles.

They should've just signed like a 30 year deal with the James Bond company, lol. Bond fit Nintendo perfectly.

watch dog... what the second?

why we should buy a game that have been out for months? and then they will criticize that wii u owner don't buy games... release them day one with some exclusive and we will talk again....

sure it will not pull higher number than ps4 but not as low as it will now....

Switch!!!

No worries, Ubisoft! I promise that I will buy ACIV for the WiiU in the "near" future!

@bold. I don't see it. The eshop and miiverse are good online infrastructures. What exactly are you referring to that is missing on the U, twitch?

A universal account system for one - which isn't tied to hardware. Unique customisable user ID's, party chat (on XB Live), PSN/XB Live stores etc.
