Forums - Nintendo - I will only play Pokemon on a console

I never said here wouldn't be a handheld Pokemon game. I said there'd be a hand held app. Pokemon can't "evolve the series" on a handheld. Pokemon needs to be bigger in scale for the same reason that Zelda needed to and Mario needed to and Final Fantasy needed to and blah blah blah. Graphical improvement is not a none point when the technology to make it happen is at your disposal.

Pokémon can evolve on the Handheld. Have you not been paying attention to the series or something? It's been incrimental, but that's all GameFreak's fault. Your problems are in the wrong place. It's not the Handheld, it's GameFreak. The series has no need to be 1080p, 60 FPS, or open-world. However, the series does need to change - something that GameFreak is adamant on doing slowly. But, maybe because it works.

That's not to say, however, that it doesn't need to evolve with time - it does, but it doesn't need to be like Xenoblade Chronicles/X. Why would it? Those are different games with different gameplay mechanics.

That is not as good as you make it sound. The aspect of portability is the reason the game became so much popular, the ability to interact with other people without the limitations of the home console. Even the upgrade of internet conectivity didn't deminish the importance of human interaction. How many people go to conventions and other events with their handhelds, just to play games in company? Would it be the same if you restrict the games to a living-room? It's the human factor the element that makes the game so appealing.

No, it's not. It's the Pokemon. The Pokemon makes the game so appealing.

Yeah, that was true in the late 90s. It's 2014. We have the internet now. There are no "limitations" in interacting with other people. Over 1 billion Pokemon have been traded since launch over the internet. Over 1 billion. The idea that anything close to the majority of people play Pokemon to have "human interation" is antiquated.

Pokemon is an online game, not a social game. Like I said, if they want to keep the social aspect, not only could they keep making hanheld Pokemon games, just like they still make 2D Mario, top-down Zelda, and old school Final Fantasy, but they could just make a Pokemon Stadium-like Pokemon game/app for the 3DS where you could upload your Pokemon and trade/battle/interact with real people on the go.

No, it is the handhelds AND Gamefreak, my problems are NOT in the wrong place, and the series DOES need a vast open world. The series already is an open world, just like ALttP and the Final Fantasy NES games were, but it isn't being put to it's full potencial because it is on limited handheld hardware.

Different games with different mechanics? Who the hell ever said it had to play like Xenoblade? I said it needs to have the same scale as Xenoblade, because it does.

Why does it need to be at all like Xenoblade, though? Just saying "It needs open-world!" does not prove any type of point. You are acting like it's absolutely necessary for the series to be open-world but you are making it come off as purely opinion - which it is, but you think Pokémon needs to be like that.

I also would not call it open-world as it stands now, it's linear. Which is a good thing.

Hah. Hahahahahahaha.

Oh Spurge.

I'm with OP on this. I really don't like gaming on handhelds.

I'm using Xenoblade as an example ad an open world JRPG. It's obviously purely opinion. Everything is purely opinion. Pointing out that it's purely opinion only shows that you have no legitimate agruement against that pure opinion.

And it is open world. It doesn't matter if it's liniar. GTA is open world, but still liniar. Xenoblade was open world but still linear. Ocarina of Time was open world but still linear. And it's not a "good thing." Pokemon's story isn't good enough for linearity to ever be a "good thing."

Nope.

Handhelds aren't holding the series back, since the only benefit you've said so far is HD and bigger maps. A very important aspect of pokemon is people playing it in small, bite-sized quantities. On the way to school, during lunch, right before bed, or on long trips.

Local multiplayer is still a super important part of the game. Friends coming together and playing the game.

A pokemon game on a console would be fine, but it would likely be different, and it's definitely not essential for the series.

And yes, the social aspect of the game is a major part of it's success. Another part is that as a nintendo handheld game, it will be cheaper and easier to get, and the most important thing about pokemon is that as many people play it as possible.

And, as dessert, here's this:

The 3DS has the power to make a 3D Zelda. Yet Nintendo decided to still make another top-down Zelda, because more power didn't mean they did not see validity in the style of play. South Park was only animated like that to be cheap. Now they can afford to animate it fully, but kept the limited style anyways. More power doesn't mean the series is obligated to change, and so, just because they have a Wii U now doesn't mean they are obligated to go to it.

You still haven't proved at all why Pokémon needs to be open-world. It seems like you might have no real argument for it to be open-world other than the fact that you think it's retarded for it not to be.

Linearity is a good thing for Pokémon considering the goal is to beat all eight gyms and the Elite Four, also to collect as many Pokémon as possible. In order to streamline the process GameFreak made it linear. It makes more sense considering how many Pokémon there are and how long that alone would take.

Tell me, if they improve the story would you stop complaining? Or would it still be bad that it's not on a console even though they did improve the formula regardless.

Uh, what?
