Forums - Nintendo - I will only play Pokemon on a console

Why? What can the franchise win being on a home console? Maybe in the past, when handheld technology was more limited one could want games like Stadium or the GC Pokémon games, but handhelds will get more powerfull and with better online. If you want a proper Pokemon spinoff in a home console, just wait for Pokken, or other future spinoffs.

Look at Xenoblade Chronicles X. Now look at Pokemon X. That's "why."

Pokemon needs to grow the fuck up and graduate to home consoles and they needed to do it 10 years ago.

I can't commit to not playing Pokemon on handhelds but I really would like Nintendo to do a Pokemon for Wii U.

Handhelds are perfectly capable machines in their own right. They don't need to be tied to home consoles to deliver great and unique experiences. Comparing handheld gaming with home consoles as something inferior is an outdated argument.

P.S. I don't get the comparison. Is it for the grafics, for the open world, for the gameplay, for the story? I haven't played Xenoblade chronicles, please explain.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Pokemon console games have always been hit or miss. Although it would be awesome to see a "mainline" Pokemon game on a console, it doesn't seem like something that GameFreak would do anytime soon.

Xenoblade isn't even remotely similar to Pokemon. Pokemon has random battles, Xenoblade enemies appear in the overworld. Pokemon battles are turn-based, Xenoblade battles are real-time action. Pokemon XY actually has more extensive online components than Xenoblade appears to have. Xenoblade has a massive, epic, dramatic story with long cutscenes; Pokemon I like shorts they're comfy and easy to wear.

You don't want a Pokemon game on home consoles. You want a console game without a passing resemblance to Pokemon to be reskinned with Pikachus and Charizards.

It's for everything, but it's mostly for the open world and the graphics. Anyone with eyes can tell in 10 seconds the difference in scale between the two games. And handheld are no where near as capable as home consoles. The 3DS does not have the power to give pokemon the game it deserves. Pokemon is still A Link to the Past when it should have been Ocarina of Time 10 years ago.

It seems possible that Gamefreak just doesn't wanna handle the costs this game could potentially have. Their games are cheap to make, and they make a lot of money from these incredibly cheap handheld games. But if Nintendo can help fund huge open-world games like Xenoblade X, then there's nothing for Gamefreak to be worrying about in terms of needing money, and I'm sure they've got plenty of money either way. I don't buy the whole "It was made for handhelds" nonsense, they're probably fearful of working on a full open world project on a home console, which will require much more attention and time than the handheld games. They like their little comfort zone that handhelds give them where they don't have to try too much to develop, and development times are quick. Pokemon X/Y looks like trash graphically, but I don't blame the system, I blame the developers. It's almost as if they're not capable and they dont want to be capable of something more. If they don't try hard enough on a low spec'd system like 3DS, I can't even imagine what they'll do on a console like Wii U, it'll probably look terrible as well. Before they consider a game like that, they need to first learn how to spend more time and money for more high-quality games, and no, I'm not talking about "gameplay". XY's gameplay is of good quality, but the performance and fidelity is horrible. I want a console Pokemon game (not an MMO), there's no good excuse to not have one, but not with their current capabilities. They never worked on a high-cost game before, have they?

Moving a game to home consoles is hardly "graduating."

I agree with Dengle; you don't want Pokémon, you want a re-skinned console RPG that looks like Pokémon.

Yeah, because Ocarina of Time isn't Zelda and Mario 64 isn't Mario. Welcome back to 2014.
