Only reason why WiiU is able to keep up with Wii sales in US  is because Wii had massive shortages when it launched. It literally could have sold double the amount it sold if there would have been unlimited amount of supply. And well...European launch of WiiU has been horrible considering the success of Wii. Vita level of bombing in EU.

Good point about the Wii-shortages (also train wreck). So I think my wording should be ... good launch for most regions (as WiiU does more than PS3 and X360 at launch). Over the long run WiiU should sell lower than Wii, but good enough if we extrapolate that.

Except for Europe. I would not say Vita-levels (has someone the numbers of Vita launch), but it is definitely bombing in Europe. And as a european I have no idea why it sells so different here compared to other regions.

Europe (VGC)

W1 W2 W3

Vita 190K 63K 43K

WiiU  180K 90K 70K

Still higher than PSV but the latter was launched in February whereas the WiiU launched during the busiest market period.

With these numbers the Wii U has sold 1.8 million worldwide so far.

The 3DS is going to make an YoY over last year, as some people didn't expect it to.

Nice sales for Paper Mario

so anyone still think nintendo will hit their 5.5M march forcast?

also, fuck at 3DS sales.  outperformed my forcast by like 35k.   ...it looks like i'm going to lose my bet with POE.

Yes you will muhahahahaha

Fantastic ps3 numbers. Easily going to be the number 1 selling console is year again. Vita doing better but still not doing good enough for such an amazing console.

Very dissapointed in the fact that after all this time and a new console, Wii software still outsells PS3 software in the US.

I'm happy with PS3 hardware sales ww though, keeping it close to X360 when they had a $50 price cut this year.

Wii-U and PSVita eating the dust off the ground... 3DS wouldn't look that hot either outside these explosive japanese numbers. I hope these aren't the early signs of a market crash next generation.

What games did you expect to sell well for PS3 this year? lol.

Oh my, look at those WiiU sales...

No way to try and continue chalking this up as a shortage. Can it drop below Vita in Europe next week?

They're not nearly as bad as they look, really.

If you look at Europe's launches from last gen, you'll see that they typically drop off strongly after the first week, meaning the Wii U is actually holding a bit better. More importantly, the Wii U is ahead of the 360 at its launch, and if you look at "first holiday" sales, the Wii U actually does have the chance to perform quite closely to the Wii, if it has a strong last few days leading up to Christmas, which is relatively likely at the moment.

To the 23rd of December 2006, the Wii had sold a little under 600,000 units in Europe. The Wii U is currently at around 340,000. The 360 was at about 400,000 to 24th of December 2005. This suggests that the Wii U will be somewhere between the 360 and the Wii in terms of first-holiday sales. I can't compare with PS3, as it launched in March 2007, and thus had plenty of time on shelves prior to the holiday season. Don't forget that Europeans don't have an equivalent to Black Friday prior to Christmas.

Mind you, they could certainly be better. But they're not nearly as bad as they look.

Thanks. Well, Vita launched better and dropped harder. The harder drop can be explained with the holidays, that probably smooth the drops in sales a bit. So it does Vita-levels in Europe so far. Interesting. I don't know, why Europe does so diffferently in comparison with other regions.

Wonderbooks sales fell by 28 copies in the UK this week

What do you think about the The Walking Dead numbers? I think that's not too bad, it was already available as digital download for months (depends on which episode) and that point&click style is not for everyone, not to talk about that genre on consoles.
