Forums - Nintendo - Will Japan save Nintendo and the Wii U like they did with the 3DS?

I don't know. Pre-orders could be better in Japan, but they could be worse. Honestly, it all depends on whether the Japanese are willing to accept a new console to replace the PS3. I mean, they only ever seem to have one sucessful console at a time anymore.

how do you know japan pre orders?

So let me get this straight we are talking about 2 days sales in Europe? Furthermore, sales in North America appear to be supply constrained, at least for the Premium model (just because you can buy the system in your local store does not mean it's not nationally supply constrained).

This thread is so ridiculously premature it's not even funny.

This thing doesn't need to have sales anything like the Wii to still be very, very successful. In fact it might be better if Nintendo adopts a more measured, consistent approach to selling this system rather than just blowing their wad in the first 2-3 years.

How about we hold of on the "Wiiu need to talk about it thread" and it's ilk for at least a few months.

Wow. This is worse then vita. It has been one week and it needs saving?

It needed to be saved even before launch. Even when I like the Wii U commercials, that's bad marketing compared to the Wii one. Also Wii has Twilight Princess.

Zelda >>>>>>> Mario

Not even in the same galaxy.

You do know that 2D Mario games generally sell 5-10 times more than Zelda games, right?

Apart from that, horrible Wii U launch. But their entire system strategy is wrong anyway, they really took the best thing ever (Wii) and turned it to shit. It's like they made the system just to get better CoD ports. The tablet screen is not innovative, it's just a huge DS.

The system OS is badly programmed, slow menus, huge 0-day update, like they werent ready for launch at all. Wii backwards compatibility and Virtual console transfer is poorly implemented. The system is illogical, you can use your Wii remotes, but you have to control the menus with your Wii U controller, after they taught 100 million people to point at their screen. Sorry Iwata, but you should go. You have also destroyed Nintendo on the stock market.

Seond week sales plummeted for the wii u. You cannot blame stock issues like Nintendo surely will in the coming weeks. I have seen it in stock everywhere.

Bad marketing, high price, and a bad taste left in gamers mouths fromm the wii have hurt the wii u early on. But the same thing happened with the 3DS (maybe some different reasons) and Japan saved it.

Will they be able to save the wii u as well?

I don't think they will. Japan is more into handhelds.

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

The Wii U is currently over 700k WW after and will more than likely be over 1million next week (total) so currently it can be considered a respectable launch. I'm not expecting sales from Japan to be a decent level until after the New Years.

There's a website called COMG in Japan that posts preorder data on a daily basis. VGChartz has a thread that follows it.

Note how NSMBU tops the preorder chart, with Monster Hunter and Nintendo Land appearing further down.

The big 3 are New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which can transfer save files with last year's 3DS release.

Other launch titles include Assassin's Creed 3, Arkham CIty, FIFA 13, Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Tekken Tag Tornument 2, and Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper. But these titles won't sell nearly as well as the two Nintendo games and Monster Hunter.

Why save Nintendo? Yes the Wii U did horrible in Europe (although that could possible be because of manufacturing issues) but it did respectable numbers in NA.

Overall I think the whole gen of the Wii U will probably be like this:

Japan: amazing

America: good

Europe: good or bad (most likely the latter)

Edit: besides there's only been 1 week for Europe and 2 week for America, stop jumping the gun so soon. The new year will be interesting to see the numbers.

This is in fact wrong. The Wii U had TWO (2) days of sales that week. If you think 170k+ in 2 days is horrible and weak, then there's nothing that will save it...

Sorry to be a pessimist here but the first numbers on VGC for the Wii also had only 2 days and that sold 300k. Like I mentioned before I think the problem in Europe was manufacturing issues, thus few units ship at retails.

Nintendo and PC gamer

I don't know why you think the marketing is bad... Because it isn't.
But I do have to wonder why it plummeted so badly. I don't think the Wii U is a flunk, no where near it, but it does need to pick up those numbers!
