Forums - Sony - What Does Sony Need To Do To Beat X360 In America.

To beat the 360 in America Sony needs to drop the price of the PS3 to $150 or lower, advertise like mad (especially advertising for PSN and Move), make their UI more user friendly and flashy looking and possibly snag a huge exclusive like COD.

You took the words right out of my mouth keyboard!

Adopt more with western style theme starting with the elimination of that stupid gay ass "pley-istesyon robot anime girl at the end of every advert?

Yea, the 2 second soundbit of a "robot anime girl" saying "pley-istesyon", which wasn't even added until 2008, is why PS3 has sold 15 million units less than 360 in America, brilliant insight.

I Still Dont get it, 2011 was perhaps the PS3's biggest year yet. As far as exclusives and features goes, Sony has ALWAYS beaten the X360 in these categories and 2011 was no exception. Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, LittleBigplanet 2, Resistance 3, So Many Exclusives in 1 year and yet it still was not enough to get the american gamers attetion...

I think Sony either Needs to spend More money on marketing or rebrand the PS3 competly (atleast in america) to try to appel to american gamers. Or atleast try to make the PS3 Look/sound like a better deal then the 360. I mean for $249.99, The PS3 is easily the bigger bang for your buck as far as quality is concerned. Not trying to bash the 360 or anything, It just amazies me how the 360 is still outselling the PS3 by more than double the amount in america when the 250gb model is still $299.99...

What do yall think Sony Could do to aleast try to compete with the X360 this year in America??

Because you don't understand the average customer. Just look at the sales. The average consumer doesn't give a crap that sony had 12 good exclusives this year. Even freaking ps3 owners aren't buying most of those games. Considering how pathetic every console's tie ratio is, the average gamer doesn't buy more than 6 games a year.

In north america one of those games will basically be call of duty. One of them will be their favorite sports games. Two of them will be between the many big multiplatform games to come out every year(this year assassins creed, battlefield 3, skyrim, batman). One of them will be between the countless niche multiplatform games(this year dark souls, rage, dead island, crysis 2, homefront, mortal kombat, portal 2, etc.) and one of them will be an exclusive(Gears 3, forza, uncharted, killzone, etc.)

Now tell my why an average gamer would care that the ps3 has all these exclusives when he is more interested in gears of war than any of the ps3 ones and won't be buying more than 1 ps3 exclusive a year even if he owned a ps3. The ps3 needs big and exciting exclusives, not countless exclusives no one outside the hardcore gaming community is that interested in. God of War III is a good example of a game that helped USA sales. It sold extremly well in America and there are countless of people who bought a ps3 for god of war III. You may say uncharted 2 sold nearly the same amount but thats simply due to the countless of bundles sony released for that game.

And the other reason is that kinect ended up having broader appeal then sony move. So microsoft got the casuals as well.

Americans just dont appreciate quality as much as Europeans and Japanese do.The ps3 wont win in America.

nothing, because that market has already been decided. lol

You made an account just to say that?

X360 in the last 15 months has had the launch of XBox 360 Slim, Kinect, Halo: Reach, Fable 3 (2010) Gears of War 3, Forza 4 (2011). Multiplats: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 have sold a lot more on the X360 than the PS3.

In the last 15 months: PS3 has had the launch of PS Move, Gran Turismo 5 (2010). Killzone 3, Little Big Planet 2, Resistance 3, Infamous 2 and Uncharted 3 (2011). Despite PS3 having its best year to date and throwing the kitchen sink at the XBox 360 it has not came close to outselling the X360 in the Americas region. PS3 sales in the Asia/Pacific and European regions have more than made up for the lagging sales in the Americas regions.

XBox Live is as close as  online console gaming can get to imitating the PC online gaming experience. XBox Live has a growing subscription base, around 1 in 2 XBox 360 owners pay for XBox Live Gold. PSN needs to catch up to the quality of XBox Live. Subscription fees  may  help Sony invest in developing and maintaining a worthy competitor to XBox Live.

SONY need to send out teams of ninja's to selectively kill all Xbox 360 owners and potential Xbox 360 owners. They must then give every employee of 343 industries a cookie and secure Halo 4 as an exclusive.

All i got form this thread is for sony to bring more hot asians girls to advertise...I'm down with that.

North America loves Microsoft and the Xbox360 because of these reasons:

-Xbox360 seems more western than Japanese system (because it is)
-Xbox Live is more popular than PSN (unless someone can confirm it the other way around o.o)
-From what I've seen so far especially from where I live, the xbox360 has better advertisements than the PS3
-That whole deal during the summer when the PSN went down made some people go out and buy a Xbox360 (no joke man).
-There were more bundles which appealed to more people from Xbox360 than the PS3.

If they (Sony) did a huge sale deal like they did during blackfriday during Christmas, they would of sold more.

Yeah cause when I went into my local Gamestop to get a modern game system I told the clerk that I am terribly xenophobic and I would only purchase the most "western" console they could give me. Just kidding ... I just don't like this argument. Americans buy plenty of Japanese Wii and PS3 systems as well. This same line of reasoning is used to explain the poor Xbox sales in Japan rather than a focus on the likely explanation that Japanese gamers, in general, tend to prefer the types of games and features offered by Wii and Ps3 while the strong points of the Xbox (great online and quality shooter franchises) just don't appeal to most in Japan.

I agree with the other points though, and speaking as someone who works retail at a game store, I can personally attest to the fact the PSN downtown saw a slow but steady increase in the number of Xboxs we sold.
