It's not possible anymore since most are already connected on xbox live in the states.
It doesn't matter what the ps3 offers, if all your friends are on live your choice is already made.

Having a paid service keeps your customers loyal, you're less likely to switch over if you've already paid for live for the year. Maybe after another price cut it will become affordable enough as a secondary console, for when your family is watching tv on your 360 :)

this is the issue, ive been a live user from day one and have lots of people i play with regularly, and my friends buy 360s/live so we can play together. sony did not understand the value of live until it was too entrenched,

now MS could screw it all up. they seem bound and determined too. the change in UI was awful and they are placing the person that handled that in charge of the next xbox launch and removing the guy who grew/created the brand with american gamers. I feel MS has grown tired of the xbox existing at the periphery of the MS world and they are trying to bring it into the center to act as a hub or as the media center PC they always wanted, the problem is the could kill the brand. small little things like banning gun  avatar items add up and alienate the user base they fought so hard for

so to put it simply MS has screw up for sony to take the lead again.

It could, but are they going to do it? Sony and Microsoft may not even be able to keep their consoles relevant till 2014 like I believe they wanted, and what happened to the ten year thing?

Well the 360 will be 7 years old this year. The Next Box won't launch in the same year it gets announced. I forsee Microsoft wanting to put everyone's focus on Halo 4 than a new system. Just because they can cut the price of the 360 alongside the release of Halo 4 and might match what they did in 2011.

Sony on the other hand has the Vita that will launch. They will be focusing on it and The Last of Us for 2012. Unfortunately Twisted Metal, StarHawk and anything that isn't within those two groups I mentioned, won't get much of Sony's money in advertising or overall promotion.

I could see Sony saying something about the PS4 at Gamescom or even Tokyo Game Show. Nintendo is going to have an very difficult time aggressively promoting two brand new (and different) system in 2012. The DS will pretty much be pushed to the side. They likely won't even mention the DS at E3 this year. Focusing everything on the Wii U, 3DS and what's left of the Wii.

Sony can not spread out to much thinner. PS2 is pure profit, it won't get discontinued this year unless the system just stops selling in the emerging markets. PSP should be or is very close to being pure profit and it won't be going anywhere for at another year or 2. Especially in Japan. PS3 will be on the market for another four or more years. Vita will get pretty much get all of Sony's attention this year.

So PS2, PSP, PS3 and Vita. Adding PS4 to soon would not be smart. It would be very easy to mis-manage this.

I don't think PS3 will ever outsell 360 in the US, not for one week, one month, and never over a year.

America sells based on marketing. The American public is so brain dead, they can't tell a shirt from a pizza unless it was marketed correctly. Thus lies the PS3's problem. Microsoft made the 360 cool. Teenagers think its cool, that trickled to the parents, and the ball has just kept rolling. Kudos to MS for the job they have done.

Microsoft has been around the block and they know how to play the game. Products do not sell themselves. Show the people that something is "cooler" or "more in" than any other product, and that's what counts. Most Americans will not look beyond advertising in there purchases. Same thing happens with every other product in this country from toothpicks to politics. The cheapest or best sold product wins most of the time.

Sony's only chance is to get the PS4 over as the "cool" product early in the next gen. Make sure Call of Duty is the in deal on there platform, whore out PSN to every end of the digital world, and team with other "in" products (Disney, Justin Bieber, Facebook, Alcohol, marijuana, Porn, Honda, ect.).

They are getting PSN rolling right now with the apps for every device under the sun. All it will take is the right flash and flare, and it has to happen soon. The market is killing of competition and if Sony doesn't right this ship soon, Samsung, Apple, and Microsoft, along with the slew of street rat products will kill anyone in between. Right now Sony's sitting right in the crosshairs.

How can your sig be that great yet your post be so utterly worthless and hateful?

This post and my sig are one in the same. It is not meant to be hateful, it is what I see everyday living in America. People have forgot how to have fun, and the meaning of love. Everything is expected to be handed out on a platter, and if the platter is not of a kings status, it is a slap in their face. They have shut their brains down, and don't take into account any variables. These are the people that I am reaching out to, the people I am asking to research, learn, and love.

So basically, the way I see it is, if Sony wants to succeed with PS3/4 their are two ways for it to happen. Make the best product, and somehow wake up the american consumers. Or put together the most mushy, flashy brainwashing advertising possible to heard them to their field.

Either way, i am going to continue to be happy, and live my life, and be proud to let others live theirs. If I get asked about problems, or told about issues, just don't expect the fluffy answers that most people put out. It don't mean i'm mad, or being hateful, just saying what I see.

you are seeing what you want to see. Your one of those annoying people who believe if your opinion goes against mainstream obviously all of mainstream is brainwashed and obviously everything you believe in is the right thight. The fact is you are not one tiny bit above anyone else, You may think you are because of your delusional ideas that everyone else is a simple minded sheep while you somehow are a complete indiviual but in reality you are just as influenced by the media as others. You've realize how other people get influenced but are too stuck up and proud to realize how it influences you as well.

I Still Dont get it, 2011 was perhaps the PS3's biggest year yet. As far as exclusives and features goes, Sony has ALWAYS beaten the X360 in these categories and 2011 was no exception. Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, LittleBigplanet 2, Resistance 3, So Many Exclusives in 1 year and yet it still was not enough to get the american gamers attetion...

I think Sony either Needs to spend More money on marketing or rebrand the PS3 competly (atleast in america) to try to appel to american gamers. Or atleast try to make the PS3 Look/sound like a better deal then the 360. I mean for $249.99, The PS3 is easily the bigger bang for your buck as far as quality is concerned. Not trying to bash the 360 or anything, It just amazies me how the 360 is still outselling the PS3 by more than double the amount in america when the 250gb model is still $299.99...

What do yall think Sony Could do to aleast try to compete with the X360 this year in America??

Just because you have exclusives doesnt mean they are worth peoples attention. For 2011 PS3 had Uncharted 3. Every, and I mean every other 2011 exclusive was a "meh" to the masses, regardless of critical acclaim. Sony never got a mascot that rivals Master Chief or Mario in sales. Sales equals relevance, pop culture status, brand recognition.

Kinect is now a game changer. Voice commanding your media is seen as trendy and convenient. Casuals and core gamers use Kinect when hosting parties. 360 is a core gamers console (since most 3rd party games sell better) and now its seen as the peoples console.

Sony, like everyone says, still primarily appeals to the core. You cant win if your seen as a "sausage fest" console, not a mass market one, regardless of pricing or exclusives.

And you have no claim that PS3 has more bang for the buck on quality. Quality is subjective. For me, 360 is beter in quality because I prefer the best online, my friends all game on it, I like getting multiplats and DLC before PS3, and their exclusives, while fewer in number, interest me as a gamer far more then the dime a dozen PS3 exclusives.

I understand what your trying to say. But what i was trying to point out was that if you compared to X360 with the PS3, One clearly offers more than the other product as far as features are concerned. I will not get into specifics, But i am pretty sure most people would agree that the PS3 is a better value for your money than the X360.

Also some of the stuff you stated was also subjective.

You dont get it. Features has nothing to do with preference. If PS3 "clearly" as you say offers more and is a better value, why is it last place? Why is Wii and 360 better picks as they both clearly are?

Having specs and more exclusives is only good on paper. Reality is how much people care. That is Sonys problem.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

What they need to do is introduce a cheaper base model ps3, much like the 4gb Xbox. The 4gb Xbox was clearly favourable over the Christmas period in America as price is a major factor. If Sony were to introduce a ps3 with a smaller hardrive and a few toned down specs and a cheaper price point, maybe 150 dollars then it would IMO be a huge selling point.

Obviously yes more advertising will help but I think it's a bit clear that much like the Japanese buying Japanese products, Americans seem to be doing the same with their own products.

Also Sony need to realise the important of special edition bundles like the gears of war Xbox or modern warfare one. These seem to have alot of appeal. Sonys special edition bundles do great in Japan but Sony doesn't seem release them in America. Those are my thoughts..

This. They should have done that from the begining, ps3 with 4gb of internal memory and wired controller.
