Forums - Sony - What Does Sony Need To Do To Beat X360 In America.

Im really tired of hearing about live. I've used both. They both offer the same thing. One isn't better than the other. But some how MS has made you beilve this and that's the only thing Live has over PSN. It's funy people say this but eveyrthing live offers is free every where else. MS is a nickel and dime company and they always will be.

I second this but you know what I buy live anyways just because my firneds have it. And I always get it for sub $35. The real idiots are the ones who pay $60 for it.

Can't be done at this point. Momentum is with 360

Now, how it could be done, there are two points

1) Release PS4 before NextBox
2) Try to make exclusives with better mass appeal. Sony still doesn't have anything as ubiquitous as Halo, let alone as broadly powerful as Nintendo's games.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

And that's an understandable reason to keep paying for it. If all my friends where on live,  I'd pay for it to. Thankfully my game friends now game on PSN over live. It's pretty sad you can't even use a subscription service like Netflix without first having a live membership. Things like that just rub me the wrong way.

Adopt more with western style theme starting with the elimination of that stupid gay ass "pley-istesyon robot anime girl at the end of every advert?

I really think thats the least of thier concerns, but calling something stupid and gay without first explaining why just makes you sound immature. How old are you?

I don't think PS3 will ever outsell 360 in the US, not for one week, one month, and never over a year.

America sells based on marketing. The American public is so brain dead, they can't tell a shirt from a pizza unless it was marketed correctly. Thus lies the PS3's problem. Microsoft made the 360 cool. Teenagers think its cool, that trickled to the parents, and the ball has just kept rolling. Kudos to MS for the job they have done.

Microsoft has been around the block and they know how to play the game. Products do not sell themselves. Show the people that something is "cooler" or "more in" than any other product, and that's what counts. Most Americans will not look beyond advertising in there purchases. Same thing happens with every other product in this country from toothpicks to politics. The cheapest or best sold product wins most of the time.

Sony's only chance is to get the PS4 over as the "cool" product early in the next gen. Make sure Call of Duty is the in deal on there platform, whore out PSN to every end of the digital world, and team with other "in" products (Disney, Justin Bieber, Facebook, Alcohol, marijuana, Porn, Honda, ect.).

They are getting PSN rolling right now with the apps for every device under the sun. All it will take is the right flash and flare, and it has to happen soon. The market is killing of competition and if Sony doesn't right this ship soon, Samsung, Apple, and Microsoft, along with the slew of street rat products will kill anyone in between. Right now Sony's sitting right in the crosshairs.

I'm American and I take offense to that. GTFO.

I don't know why it matters. PS3 already beat the 360 in the past 2 years with just europe and asia. Even if the PS3 gains popularity in America it will just dominate the 360. I like that the 360 has sold more WW. It'll be even sweeter when the PS3 overtakes the 360. call me a fanboy if you like, but when it DOES happen I'll make a thread about it=]

lets say if sony would make a faulty system that breaks, they might get more sales because people will buy a new one. to top it off lets say they then fix that faulty system in a new slim version. that would then make more sales, and together with releases of new game bundles with it.

i think the real problem was the $600 price at start, and they were selling at a $200 lose even at that price. I'm impressed they pull through and I'm glad.

Do you think the blu-ray might of played a huge role in that price tag and production cost? If so, would that mean the PS4 will be cheaper when it comes out o.O?

I bought my PS3 less than 3 months ago for 200 dollars mostly because of the price tag otherwise I would of bought it earlier. (I think the most I've spent on a console system was a Wii which I bought a year after launch).

(Not a troll post, just wondering)

Not just that but, most definitely together with the ps2 emulater it once had, 4 usb ports, sd card ports etc.

I Still Dont get it, 2011 was perhaps the PS3's biggest year yet. As far as exclusives and features goes, Sony has ALWAYS beaten the X360 in these categories and 2011 was no exception. Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, LittleBigplanet 2, Resistance 3, So Many Exclusives in 1 year and yet it still was not enough to get the american gamers attetion...

I think Sony either Needs to spend More money on marketing or rebrand the PS3 competly (atleast in america) to try to appel to american gamers. Or atleast try to make the PS3 Look/sound like a better deal then the 360. I mean for $249.99, The PS3 is easily the bigger bang for your buck as far as quality is concerned. Not trying to bash the 360 or anything, It just amazies me how the 360 is still outselling the PS3 by more than double the amount in america when the 250gb model is still $299.99...

What do yall think Sony Could do to aleast try to compete with the X360 this year in America??

Just because you have exclusives doesnt mean they are worth peoples attention. For 2011 PS3 had Uncharted 3. Every, and I mean every other 2011 exclusive was a "meh" to the masses, regardless of critical acclaim. Sony never got a mascot that rivals Master Chief or Mario in sales. Sales equals relevance, pop culture status, brand recognition.

Kinect is now a game changer. Voice commanding your media is seen as trendy and convenient. Casuals and core gamers use Kinect when hosting parties. 360 is a core gamers console (since most 3rd party games sell better) and now its seen as the peoples console.

Sony, like everyone says, still primarily appeals to the core. You cant win if your seen as a "sausage fest" console, not a mass market one, regardless of pricing or exclusives.

And you have no claim that PS3 has more bang for the buck on quality. Quality is subjective. For me, 360 is beter in quality because I prefer the best online, my friends all game on it, I like getting multiplats and DLC before PS3, and their exclusives, while fewer in number, interest me as a gamer far more then the dime a dozen PS3 exclusives.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

The PS3 won't outsell the Xbox 360 in North America this generation.

Whether people like to believe it or not, Microsoft with Kinect have bridged the casual market with the Xbox 360. Had they not done so, had Microsoft not come out with a motion control system or came out with one similar to the Wii, then the story would be different.

With the PS4 Sony is going to have to bridge the casual gamer market, as well as match Microsoft 1:1 technology wise. Kinect has brought to the table a "Wow!" factor that Move simply has not matched. It may not be the better gaming peripheral of the two, but Kinect offers a better experience for those wanting to navigate the UI via voice or gesture controls.

You can argue against this all you like. The reality is that since the release of the Xbox 360 S and the subsequent Kinect release a few months later, the Xbox 360 has had nothing but sales wins. The only thing that Microsoft did significantly different from Sony was Kinect. So whether you like it or not, next generation Sony has to address what Microsoft did with Kinect on the Xbox 360 and match that, or do one even better otherwise it'll come across as "meh".
