Forums - Politics Discussion - Is Bidens campaign dead? (EDIT: Well, this was turned around completely.)

Is Biden's campaign no longer viable?

Yes, his campaign is dead! 30 46.88%

His campaign is badly hur... 13 20.31%

He will take a small hit,... 5 7.81%

No, this result will not hurt his campaign. 7 10.94%

Donald Trump will win the democratic primary! 9 14.06%

Total:64

After the major screwup in the democratic Iowa caucus we still have no definite data about the outcome. And while this makes it difficult to decide the winner, all the fragmented information we got points to a massive loss of Biden. He isn't even second or third, it seems he is fourth or fifth. And with a big gap to the three frontrunners.

The reported results on Wikipedia so far list Biden as fifth behind Sanders, Warren, Buttigieg and Klobuchar with 13.2% in initial alignment and 11.08% in final alignment. The released numbers by the Sanders campaign covering about 40% of precincts show Biden in fourth with 13.83% in first count and 12.37% in final count. The Warren campaign issued a statement, that she is in a three-way fight for the lead with Biden being a distant fourth.

All these points alone wouldn't be too reliable, but together they paint the picture of a crushing loss for Biden.

It isn't even that he could recover in New Hampshire. He polls far behind Sanders there. In win in Nevada might turn things around, but it is also not very likely. So South Carolina is the first state that shows him leading the polls comfortably. But by then his main argument of electability could have been severely damaged, which would hurt him down the line.

So what do you think? Can Biden recover or is his campaign no longer viable?

Biden is paying the price for his family's involvement in Trump's impeachment that amounted to nothing. Biden has failed the people of America, so they sure aren't going to want him be the president.

Glad that old creep's campaign is dying. Wish he would stop molesting children though...

Further evidence Biden's campaign could be in trouble is the polling. New polls coming in with interviews still taken before Iowa show him slowly dropping. The Realclearpolitiics average shows, that never since Biden entered the race, Sanders was so close to him (3.3% currently).

If the final results are consistent with early reports, his campaign is badly hurt but could recover. A 4th or 5th place showing would be devastating. Especially given that Bloomberg isn't really an entity at Iowa and Bloomberg has been polling higher than some of those other candidates that received more votes than Biden. That gives the impression of a 5th or 6th place finish.

That said, I will wait for the final results for a more in-depth analysis.

This topic has been covered many times, even a few days ago, in the official US politics thread (and others).  We would be interested in hearing your perspective in there.

I say this because that video and the context of the whole situation are irrelevant to the democratic nomination.  It WILL get thrown at him in the general election if he is nominated but let's get past Iowa first....however long that is going to take  *sigh*.

Massimus - "Trump already has democrat support."

The majority of the US want to get rid of Trump, but the real problem for democrats is that they are so divided while the republicans are rather united in their support for Trump.
If Biden would win the democratic primary, many would not vote for him, probably for the same reasons why people didn't vote for Hillary. The same might happen when Sanders becomes the dem's nominee because of the "socialist"/"communist" stigma (not that Sanders is actually a communist by any stretch or full on socialist).

The republicans have a good chance of winning, not because the majority of the US support them (they don't), but because the democrats are so divided and don't seem to have a candidate that can really unite them (let alone unite the US at large).
If Trump wins again, I think we'll be looking at a huge downturn within the US but also globally. If the dems win 2020, the first thing they have to do is make huge political reforms. The ridiculous electoral college will need to go, first and foremost. 1 vote should be worth exactly 1 vote, regardless of where you live.

I think electoral college might fall in time, whoever wins the White House and congress:

I hope so, but there's still unfortunately at least a moderate chance he gets the nomination. His entire popularity is "I was Obama's vice president." There's no other reason.
