Forums - Nintendo - Switch 2 game cases: What's your take?

WTF. No. It's made to look distinctly different from Switch 1 so somebody doesn't buy a Switch 2 game and wonder why it doesn't work in their Switch 1.  I worked in Gamestores, and clueless moms would call things Xcube, and I had 20-something-year-old dudes wonder why their PS3 game didn't play on PS2. If ugly packaging is all it took to ward off collectors, then US SEGA Saturn games would be the cheapest things to buy for retro gamers...*spoiler* they're expensive as hell.

You can't change my mind on this. 64GB carts to f9rce 90 price tags and download Keys and ugly packaging.

Only you can change from choosing to be dumb.

And only the masses can keep pyshical alive, not the few hold outs.

While it is good for some change to not look the same as Switch game cases, I don't like less room for cover art, especially for Switch 2 editions of Switch games.

Well, goodbye to having some cool-looking artwork inside the case now...

I'll take that trade for unique fonts, logos and art on the spines instead of the boring, uniform colors and text of Switch 1 games. Like TomaTito said, not a fan of the Switch 2 banner at the top of every box taking space away from actual box art though.

Yeah, in the example from the OP MK8D also has a NSO banner, but that's a good comparison to make. Let's take a look at BotW:

No flying birds to be seen in the Switch 2. Although composition looks similar to the WiiU's.

And here is a comparison between Game Card, Game-Key and Download Code covers.

I am not bothered by these changes because I put my games on the shelf in a way that only their spines show. While the system's logo is now a bar instead of being restricted to a corner, you have to keep in mind that boxart designers know this, so eventually less available space for the art will become less of an issue.

What I care most about is that a game card is inside. The rest of the box is bells and whistles, and the biggest hit that physical games have taken happened two generations ago when instruction booklets were being done away with.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Looks ok. I like the red boxes. The red bar at the top looks ok on some games and not so good on others. Theyre fine overall though.

No complaints here. The art wrapping around to the spine and the red plastic will help differentiate from Switch 1 games, the former especially when they're sitting on the shelf.

Only issue with the red cases is it will most likely have no inside box art. Is it worth it?

I had to grab the physical copy to see this myself! Yeah, I know, the inflated 90eur price hike, but I actually got it for 60eur right at launch.

While Japan's version disappointingly lacks inside box art, as seen in the OP, the European release thankfully includes it. Not as visible as Switch's clear cases, but it's there. Check it out!

As long as I can differentiate Switch 1 and 2 carts, it's fine.
